www.philmacgiollabhain.ie subject of DOS attack.

It would appear that someone wants to prevent me from having an online presence.
I do not know if the two events are connected, but on Friday 2nd September my web hosting company suspended my account after a compliant stating that my journalism on the site was damaging Rangers FC as a trading entity.
The same day as my site went down HMRC staff was in Ibrox, it wasn’t a social call.
Now as I write this on TCN my site is down again. This time it is more serious.
It is a DOS attack.
The Denial Of Service attack is a criminal offence in many countries including the UK.

My web hosting company considers this attack on my site to be professional (i.e. someone paid for it) and probably originates in Russia.
Russian gangs are known to specialise in this type of cyber crime.
I will almost certainly have to upgrade my server and take other precautions.
This will be costly, but the only other option is to give up and that is not really feasible for me.
Once more I’m grateful for the facility that TCN affords me in getting the news out to the Celtic Family.
This is a setback and an obstacle, but it will not stop me.
That’s a promise.

  1. I can see the headlines now:
Whyte pays Russian Mafia to silence Irish Rebel!
I thought Rangers were supposed to be Having cash flow problems Phil. Surely the petty cash tin wouldnt cover these ad hoc expenses what with the flight to Moscow and the suitcase full of rubels or whatever it is. I suppose he could have used Ryanair.
The Russian Mafia, bedfellows wi the big bad Rangers eh.. The mind boggles.

  2. This reminds me of when the Triads tried to silence me. I ordered a curry on just-eat and it was late. I posted a complaint on the website but it never appeared. My mate who has a computer in work and seems to know about these things said that it “sounded professional” and that some of the guys who worked in the chinese take away in question were a bit dodgy looking. I put 2 and 2 together. Keep your chin up Phil. I didnt let it intimidate me. I went to the chippy instead. Dont let Whyte bully you.

  3. christ Phil, save us the whole ‘Russian gangs’ stuff. methinks someone likes to over-egg the pudding

    1. To be fair Chris an overwhelming number of these attacks come via the old Soviet block including Russia, Romania and the Ukraine. That is not where the attack starts but it is where servers are harnessed to carry out the attacks.

  4. Phil they cannot say your lying because you’re not, they’ve tried to ignore you, tried to con their fans that nothings wrong only to be embarrassed by their own denials. They know the BBC are going to air a piece of investigative journalism with maybe an undercover piece on the takeover & tax  situation, from inside Ibrox. They can’t blame their tabloid media for exposing what’s been
going on, because single handedly you’ve shown that lickspittle lot how to do their job. People who want to keep the story from the public domain know if they cut your communication then the takeover board will have a free hand to manipulate the story to suit them. But they can’t put the genie back in the bottle, they can’t deny anymore ! You can be very proud of your work.

  5. For the record guys I have made no accusations as to the author of this attack. The facts are as stated.
The site is down because of a DOS attack. the IP addresses are Russian.
The web hosting person told me that the attack looked professional and that someone,in all probability, would have paid for this to be done.
    Those are the facts.
    No editorialising from me.
    Just the facts.

  6. You said it would appear someone wants to prevent you having an online presence.
I doubt that as it would be hard to prevent anyone having an online presence in this day and age. In any case, your material is hardly sensative. You havent damaged anyone. You leaked an email joke about the pope that ended up getting a referee sacked. Oh and you tipped off a photographer about 2 guys from HMRC handing letters in to Ibrox. Its hardly MI5 material Phil.
More likely in my opinion, someone simply wants to make your life a little more difficult and they have succeeded. You can still type up your opinions. Its just that it will cost you a wee bit more. No bigie. #justsayinglike.
