Next Gen – Man City v Celtic

Celtic’s under 19’s travell to Manchester tonigh for their third game in the Next Gen series. So far the young bhoys have lost their first two games narrowly being defeated 1-0 in Marseille  and then 3 -1 to a classy Barca U19’s side at Celtic Park.
I attended the Barca game and although the score makes it look like a comprehensive defeat the game told another strory. At no time over the 90 minutes did the young Celts look out classed in, fact they played well and if it wasn’t for a mistake of judgement from Celtic keeper Nick Feely and a bit of a wonder goal from Barca’s Jean Marie Dongou for Barca’s third the final result would have been far closer.
The truth is that our under 19’s matched the Barca boys for most of the game and never looked out of place playing against one of the tournaments favourites. It was refreshing to see a young Celtic team playing 4-4-2 and most importantly keeping the ball on the deck.
Unfortunately I can’t make it to Manchester tonight but I will be attending our next two home games at Celtic park. I would certainly urge any fan who was thinking about taking in these games to do so. It’s also a great way to introduce young Celtic fans to Celtic Park.
All the best to the Young Hoops
Hail, Hail

  1. Well done lads, you were the better team tonight, a yard quicker and dare I say wanted to win more. Dreadful weather you brought down with you. Looks like your future is in good hands.
I have to say this is a wonderful tournament and it was good to see quite a few hoops fans down at Ewen Fields, Hyde. May just make the trek up to Glasgow for the return, my first visit since we played Celtic at Hampden Park way back in 1971 – a bit scary that night!!
Cheers – Malc (Man City fan)
