Racism and Violence from Celtic fans should not be tolerated.

Over the weekend the good name of our club and our support was dragged through the mud with a halfwit on Twitter sending racist abuse to Rangers players and a group of thugs on a train beating up a young lad. I’m happy to say that these incidents have been whole heartedly condemned by the Celtic Family on line. I say on line because these days that is were the hub of social chat takes place I dare say that many off line are equally disgusted by this behaviour.
In the case of the halfwit on Twitter there was a feeling that the account which had very few following or followed could have been the work of someone outside the Celtic family trying to tarnish the good name of the club and support. On further investigation it appears that Michael Convery, 41, from Govan, is according to an ex -girlfriend a Celtic fan albeit an “armchair” fan as his girlfriend describes him. In the grand scheme of things it should not matter who he supports or who he abuses the fact is that he is a piece of racist scum and these type of people should always be reported to the authorities.
On Sunday we heard about an incident on a train where a sixteen year old boy was allegedly attacked by four men believed to be Celtic supporters. In initial reports it was suggested that the trouble started when the young guy asked the men to stop singing sectarian songs. This has not been confirmed yet however it did not stop the Media stating that it was a sectarian assault. Once again whether the assault was sectarian or not is not the main problem. The main problem is that guys apparently returning from the match acted like mindless thugs and set about one person. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour anywhere in society. Unfortunately it appears these thugs were Celtic fans and once again our club and support are tarnished by people who are not fit to support our club.
So what can the Celtic family do about these type of things? In reality there is not much if anything we can do to prevent these type of things happening however what we can do is help identify those who shame our club and help the authorities to prosecute them.
Fortunately the huge majority of our support are decent people but we must remain vigilant and help stamp out these shameful acts whereever we can.
Hail, Hail

  3. Agreed sectarianism and racism should not be tolerated.
Have to say though why is it not such an issue when the racist abuse is directed to the people of Ireland.

    1. Mike we have always tried to highlight anti Irish sectarianism and racism but unfortunately the media and politicians sweep it under the carpet.

  5. I totally condemn both these incidents and hope the people responsible are punished accordingly, there is no place for racism or sectarianism in any walk of modern life, I would urge all Celtic fans to be on their best behaviour when representing the club on any platform as the police, politicians and rangers fans have a total hard on for us right now and will try and drag us through the mud at any opportunity as part of the ‘evening up’ process that this new bill has been created for. in response to the anti Irish sectarianism that goes on in Scotland, the trouble is that it’s so deep rooted and widely participated in by what we are supposed to deem the more ‘respectable’ elements of our society I.e lawyers, judges etc lol and not to forget our beloved media hacks who have a platform to condemn such attacks but don’t, they actually use it to perpetuate anti Irish sectarianism! in some cases using jokey terms like ‘plastic paddy’ or ‘diddly dee’ music, te term plastic paddy I find particularly offensive, imagine saying to one of Scotland’s many 2nd or 3rd generation Indian or Pakistani citizens that they are just ‘immitation Indians ‘ or ‘plastic Pakistanis’! would this be allowed or tolerated? NO! it would be roundly condemned, and rightly so!!. So bhoys and ghirls please be on your best behaviour wether your at the game, online, tweeting or however you maybe supporting the BHOYS as big brother, wee eck, wee billy and the glesga polis are all watching!! ( rant over!)
