OK, so we have all been enjoying our Ice Cream & Jelly over the last couple of days and rightly so, it is not everyday that your biggest rivals are headline news all over the country for all the wrong reasons (well not since Manchester 2008)
Now is the time to wake up and smell the coffee, RANGERS WILL SURVIVE.
Rangers will be playing in the SPL next season and the season after that and the season after that. Whether it is Rangers 1873 or Rangers 2012 is still uncertain but they will still be playing in the SPL. Everyone who thinks that this is the end of Rangers needs to take a reality check!
In my last blog – http://www.thecelticnetwork.com/2012/02/07/the-ifs-ands-of-the-rfc-situation/ I looked at the possible outcomes of the current situation, little did we know that things would move so swiftly.
Why will they survive? – Because there are enough people out there that will make sure of it. Rangers do have a large fan base, they do have influential followers, they do have affluent fans and they are STILL the establishment club. For all these reasons Rangers will not die.
SKY will demand it
SPL will demand it
SFA will demand it
What we don’t need just now is MP’s. MSP’s journalists, SFA, SPL and all and sundry spinning the line that we need Rangers for the good of Scottish football.
We also don’t need these people condoning tax evasion or advocating cheating in sport.
I am astounded by some MP’s, the guardians of our parliament and our democracy, decrying HMRC for attempting to carry out their duties and collect tax. Would they say the same if this was the local builder or plumber that was avoiding paying his PAYE or VAT?
We don’t need our football governing bodies saying, as admitted to me on Saturday night, that commercialism makes Rangers a different case fromClydebank, Airdrie & Gretna.
We don’t need the main stream media launching “Operation Save Rangers – it wasn’t their fault” campaigns.
What we do need is openness, transparency, fairness and justice, not vengeance.
We also need for Rangers to stand up and admit to their wrong doing and for the club to be punished accordingly. They have for the best part of 15 years allegedly cheated the Taxman & the public purse out of monies due. Money that is badly needed in the public sector in time of austerity.
They have cheated Scottish Football by not playing on a level playing field; they have overspent by £160M not to count the potential £50M tax over the last decade or so. Can you imagine how strongAberdeen, or Dundee United or Hibs would have been if they had spent over £200M over the last 10 years!
We need ALL football fans to say NO TO CHEATING
We need our clubs to send out the same message
We need MP’s & MSP’s to say NO TO TAX EVASION
We need RFC to ADMIT WRONG DOING and show remorse
We need to see appropriate punishment so that NO other club think that a slap on the wrist will be the punishment IF you get caught
If individuals have been found guilty of cheating in sport then they are usually banned and any medals are forfeited, teams have also been punished and titles taken off them in the past, so precedents have been set.
It is now up to the football governing bodies to decide what punishment befits the crime and draw a line in the sand under the whole sorry affair, we must put pressure on them to see that justice is done.
As I stated in the last blog, the punishment will depend entirely on whether they win the Big Tax Case or lose it and whether they come out of administration or are liquidated. The punishments are different for each scenario but justice must be seen to be done to deter others in the future.
BUT MARK MY WORDS – RANGERS WILL SURVIVE
