Sack Neil Lennon. His team are bottlers ? TCN Survey

Followers of this site and our Twitter account will know that Neil Lennon has our full support and considering this is his first managerial post we think he is doing the job well. Considering the size of the club he is managing winning 2 trophies appearing in 3 finals and loosing the league by 1pt last season we would say he is doing a remarkable job.
Unfortunately it seems after every defeat their are calls for his head and a lot of negative comments made on social network. These range from calling his/ our team bottlers to moaning about his behaviour track side especially when he feels officials have not done their jobs correctly.
So we have decided to run some polls to get an overall feeling from the support.

  1. The man has been hounded and demonised since he arrived in Scotland. Maybe if the Celtic board had taken a more assertive stance in the past the man would not be persecuted in this way.
As for sacking him… Ridiculous suggestion!

  3. I said it when we were 3-0 down to Kilmarnock and I’m sticking by it.neil Lennon could easily have walked for a quieter life but he has stuck by us and we should be paying him the same honour.and not because he’s a true Celtic man although it helps but he’s a great manager and one of the bravest wel ever have. 5. Ghod only knows how he puts up with hassle day in day out!
Of course fans get frustrated I’m guilty myself.
Lennon will want to improve and both he and team will!
He needs to stop giving them ammunition as yesterday by running on to park. Was always going to back fire.
    That said he’s only human!

  9. We all have opinions on the game, the team, the tactics we pays our money and we believe we have knowledge on the players capabilities… thus most of us are not football team coaches… but 3 finals 1 win 1 semi final lost, dropping 5 points in the critical last month of the league run in last season …. not beating them at Ibroke to win the league recently…. For me we lack the same energy and purpose going forward as our opposition… the back four are never commanding and we allow teams to run with the ball to almost 18 yard line before a tackle is made and then a fould is given away… Had the ball not been burst with the manky mob going into admin would the league be won at this moment am not sure … the two recent results at Hampden have me doubting it.

  11. Neil will learn to be more subtle given time and to pick his time and place to make his feelings known, but he still a 2nd yr apprentice, going it alone with no teacher, winning the title after just missing out last year! And his players will learn how to be the bullys in these big games now that they have the taste for winning championships and european football can only help further their carreers

  13. Overall, I’m amazed he’s still at Celtic Park. With the constant abuse and grief the guy gets, most would have left a while ago.
Hats off to Neil. I feel he has fight, tooth and nail, these corrupt, vile, rancid, disgusting cheats that the SFA are employing.
My only criticism is that he should maybe do so in a less aggressive manner or put an official club statement out every time we have a gripe with officials and their “honest mistakes”.
If yesterdays ref couldn’t see Black tackle on Ledley along with the various other things, the guy shouldn’t be working as a ref. If he did see it, then he’s a cheat and shouldn’t be a ref.

  15. I will back Lenny ALL the way. He wears his heart on his sleeve and that mirrors the vast majority of the Celtic support. Given all he has had to sustain, any wee indiscretions are forgivable. Keep at it Bhoy.

  17. I support Neil but I also criticise him, just like I have any other Celtic manager. It doesn’t matter if you are experienced or new at the job, fans do not wish to see defeat.
This is a young team and Lennon is a rookie – we know all this – but I don’t want us to heap all our excuses on these facts any more than I do wish to blame it on referees. This leads us down a path of victimisation, which we can still address it must be said, but lets look at ourselves as much as these other facts.
Wanting Neil Lennon to leave is absurd and would gain nothing only put us back again. He must learn as much as his players have to.
Losing the plot and getting himself in hot water is not the most diplomatic approach even if it is his character. He will only play into the hands of his detractors.
There is not doubt that decisions against Celtic (not all) are staggering and must be scrutinised. However, the battle with the SFA and playing officials in Scotland must be dealt with calmly.
This is the only way to tackle these issues.

  19. Early days for Neil, he will, in time, become a top manager …….. hopefully with Celtic.
I can’t think of anyone else who could have taken this job as his first managerial job and did it so well.
I hope he never loses his passion

  21. Much as I often agree with what he says, Neil must learn to keep his mouth shut. He is an energetic, inspirational manager, but he may be of little use to the team if he is stuck up in the stand for half the season. He MUST be aware that, as RFC are having a bit of a bad time just now, the powers that be will be desperate to do all they can to even things up, so he shouldn’t give them the opportunity.
Regarding on-the-pitch performances, I believe there IS a problem in the big games. Two trophies in two full years when your main rivals are in meltdown is simply not good enough for Celtic. Despite some dodgy refereeing performances, Celtic didn’t play well against Killie or Hearts this season, and that’s why they failed to win a cup. Better (and some worse) Celtic teams have won trophies because they played well enough to outweigh dodgy refffing. This team needs to learn that and step up to the plate.
I’d like Neil to stay, but I don’t really want to go through another year blowing big games against obviously inferior opposition. If Neil can’t sort out this obvious failing, it may unfortunately be time for him to accept that the job is just too big for him. Next season will be the test – he won’t be a “rookie” any more, and he must show that he’s got what it takes.

  23. Neil young+learning. Seems to be a great man manager+IMHO improving tactician. Do think he should rise above bad calls in public though. Full support from most I know + will continue to excel.

  25. Tony Mowbray took these decisions on the chin. Look where it got him. As a club, we need to raise awareness about the number of honest mistakes in high profile matches. Neil needs support from higher up the chain as the treatment he suffers is unacceptable. Sadly I do think there are people out there to get him and he will not have it. Good to see he has the passion.

  27. I bet the people who voted he should be sacked are the same people who acted like his biggest fans last week… Band wagon supporters! Iv supported Lenny from the start, I supported him during Celtic playing great footy last season, supported him thru his ordeals, supported him after ICT, supported him at half time during the 3-3 killie game, I knew in the bottom of my heart he would get us our title back, Iv supported him sticking up for our club, for speaking out against the blatant cheating… Anyone who says ‘the ref should have no bearing on a game if we play well’ obviously knows jack shit about football…. Titles are won and lost on ref decisions so they play a crucial part in the game of footy! Don’t get me wrong sometimes I question lennys tactics or sub choices, I sometimes think he uses twitter the wrong way and I absol hate him chewing tabacco but one thing I love about him is he isn’t doing any of this for the money, he’s doing it for the love he has for Celtic fc and it’s fans… He’s one of us and I’d hate to think in someone’s time of need that we would turn our backs on him….. How many of us could say we would walk into work the same day we received a nail bomb? Or continued leading our team seconds after bein attacked??? Those calling for lennys head need to wise up

  29. Neil is a young manager with a young staff and players he is learning all the time. He wears his heart on his sleeve I love that about him he also tells it as it is, he is a very honest man. Would we rather have him act like Tony Mowbray and take it on the chin.Neil goes mad at a decision against our tean no matter the score not just when we get beat. People suggesting he gets sacked is ridiculous. The glory hunters should take a good look at themselves in Lenny we trust Hail Hail.

  31. He has a long way to go as manager. Team under perform at key times. He over reacts when things don’t go his way instead of seriously addressing his shortcomings and those of his team. One more season and then assess then

  33. The big issue is the rank-rottenness of the SFA. How can you really judge Lennon or his team? The SFA’s modus operandi is STOP CELTIC, and the most obvious vehicle for keeping the club down is refereeing patronage: sort that and the SFA is 99% sorted. Then consider Lennon’s performance on merit.

  35. This is a man who has suffered more than most from attacks (sadly at times literally) by anti- Celtic, and by association, anti -Catholic bigots who still plague Scottish society. In the face of these attacks the Celtic manager has been unwavering in his courage. For this courage alone most people without a biased agenda would admire Neil Lennon.
In addition he has shown further fortitude in challenging apparent institutional bias epitomised by the SFA.
I am sure that most unbiased observers would applaud Neil’s willingness to challenge perceived abuses of power.
Further to this he displays, as manager of Celtic, a passion for his team that fans of many clubs must envy.
That he is sometimes too quick to offer opinion is not in doubt. That he makes mistakes is not in doubt either. But those statements would be true of most great football managers in the history of the sport.
Neil Lennon is not yet a great manager.

  37. We should stand by Neil Lennon and his team. They are young and will improve but right at this present time, in my opinion, they don’t have the bottle for the big “one of” games. Results like yesterdays happen too often for it to be coincidence.
Anyway, the “bottle” will develope along with the team and there’s no need to panic or become hysterical. Keep the faith.
We will be around for a long time to come. I suspect there are others who wish they could say the same.

  39. Sack NL? You’re havin’ a laugh, aren’t you?. I’d rather divorce my wife..and I love her dearly!
Earlier in the season many fickle fans were callin’ for his head (and Georgios..Big Sammy..Samarass’ too). Why? Can’t they see we have first class management..and a first class team, too?
Neil has done NOTHING wrong in my eyes, He speaks his mind, YES!..He won us the league, YES!, He won us the Scottish Cup last season, YES!.
Sorry, we only sack FAILURES..Mowbray (I’d spit on his grave), but Neil Lennon. NEVER!
    Yours in Celtic.

  41. Neil Lennon is the rite man at this time 4 the job. Majority of signings hav been spot on. He talks well, has backing of players and defends his club well when needed, and in this country is needed frequently.

  43. Those commenting they want Lennon sacked need to have a stern look at themselves.
For a first job, after all the issues he’s had to deal with I believe this shows disrespect to a TRUE Legend.
Aye okay, some games (Not all, check his overall record) have been disappointing but thats why I choose to put this down to inexperience both within the coaching team and the squad.
We all praise the team and manager when things go well ie. Such a young squad etc so we can’t have it both ways.
Negative side I wish could be changed, just the way in which he deals with officials and the SFA.
Reasons are, he can still his point across without having to storm the field as he did yesterday, okay there is occasions where he has been dragged through the SFA coals for feck all but reactions like yesterday will do no good for this.
In Lenny I TRUST as with the VAST majority of the #CelticFamily.

  47. All in all i think lennon is doing a good job but i feel he gripes at too much so when he complains about the big decisions the media pass it off as another lennon rant. I just feel he should try and contain his frustration (must be hard thing to do). He’s making it easy for the media to paint a bad picture of him and the club. He’s went through a lot and we should stand by him. Hail hail

  51. For his first job, Neil is doing well and is still learning. Some people don’t realise the task of managing this great club and considering all the off field “extras” that he had to put up with last year he has been amazing. The man is Celtic through and through and loves his players and supporters for that we should be grateful and proud. Now here comes the “but”…. he needs to learn to bite his tongue and walk away a bit more. The bias against Celtic is not new, Jock had it, King Billy had it, as did Hay, O’Neill and Strachan but they managed to rise above it with perhaps the occasional reaction but Lenny reacts after every defeat and it looks bad. I think someone like McNeill upstairs as an elder statesman ( no input in the running of the club or team affairs, that is Lennys job) would be an asset . Hes been there and done it and would help him settle a bit. That is my only criticism other than that GBNL. Hail Hail

  53. He shouts about every wrong decision that when (as in yesterday’s case) he genuinely has a point, it is drowned out by his constant protests over the course of the season. He surely must remember that Hearts scored a perfectly legitimate goal at Tyncastle a few weeks back and it wasn’t counted, before we went on to win 4-0?. The boy who cried wolf if you will.
He lacks the dignity of a real Celtic manager, his twitter account where he responds to idiot Rangers fans (and some Celtic fans) in a similar moronic manner is wrong and should notbe the conduct of a manager of one of the globe’s biggest clubs.
I like the fact he sticks up for his players and agree his passion is vital for the job. However, continually calling his players ‘world class’ when they score a 20-yard shot against Dundee Utd or have a half decent game against St Mirren, shows that he values his players way above their station. Hence, when we play these ‘big’ games and lose more often than not we are labelled bottlers. A term that grows credence after every failure, especially against teams that cost a fraction of ours.
Tactically he also leaves a lot to be desired too.
Yes we’ve won the league, but somehow there’s more questions than answers about this team

  57. i think its time the board started to make noises about the regularity, and timing, not to mention strange, decisions awarded against celtic………can they all be honest mistakes.the history of the sfa,s dealings with the club as far back as Farry, before him tiny warton, dallas and the furore of that time, the refs strike,,,,,,,the resignations of refs ……whats that all about…….we have a ref resineing and criticising the establishment then the media having a go at him for rocking the boat………most of the thinking fans dont use the word .conspiricy(a meeja!!!generated tool to goad the fans with)but it does seem that certain refs, with a tacit nod from the powers that be, make to many …….unforced errors shall we say…….lenny must not be left to take that mob on himself…….the men at the top must get involved in these issues ……yours in celtic….gbnl+stan..hh..mon the hoops……….TC

  59. I can only reiterate…with what that man, Neil Lennon, has had to endure in this country, he’s done a very very good job. The shameful acts of aggression through bigotry, corruption & intolerance has been nothing short of absolutely shocking, TOTALLY shameful. The ‘indifference’ from the MSM & those who deem themselves to be ‘neutral’ has been equally appalling.
    GOD BLESS NEIL LENNON

  61. What we need to remember is lennon is a Celtic fan like the rest of us. he lives and breathes green & white and is as angry as the rest of us with the pathetic ref performances. Maybe as manager people will say he has to learn to walk away but i would rather see his emotion shown instead of hiding.

  63. 100% LENNON hail, hail, he knows when its wrong and he knows when its right and yesterday it was wrong how he could give a penalty for that is shocking ,DISGUSTED

  65. He’s been doing a great job under horrendous circumstances and I think it’s great how he publicly stands up for his players.
I do hope privately he kicks them up the backside though when they turn in bad performances and that is 2 very lacklustre matches I’ve seen at Hampden that blew the treble.

  67. Neil Lennon is doing a good job when you see what he is up against with the ref’s and sfa and the crap he has had to put up with from Scotland’s shame across the city celtic need a new Q.C. To take over from the late mr Mcbride

  69. On top of historical bias NL will no doubt be targeted by refs after he and the late PMCBride managed to score victory over them for the first time in history. However i that has been short lived and has only made the stuation worse – it is a game we cannot win without someone blowing the whistele so to speak. Our only option is to get out of this league or do what Jock did and get a team on the park so good they can over come a few dodgy decisions. I hope NL and celtic Fc are up to this challenge.

  73. As a fan of Lennon, I felt disappointed by his reaction at the end of the semi-final. Normally I would be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but on this occasion I feel he has let himself and the fans down.
I still want Lennon to be in charge of Celtic until he’s taken us as far as he can. I don’t see the merit in knee jerk reactions calling for him to quit. I would, however, love it if he would take a deep breath and count to ten during games. I don’t want Lenny without the passion and ‘thunder’ but I would like him in the dugout managing the team where I feel he has earnt his place.

  75. I’m somewhat surprised that Mr Lennon has lasted so long in Scotland, he was singled out as a player (I however saw a guy who gave 100% in EVERY match he played in) then takes the reigns when Tony Mowbray left the club in a quite miserable state, then has to endure a sustained hate campaign that was launched against him from every angle in Scotland, while at the sae time trying to run one of the largest clubs in Europe – bear in mind the average age in our squad is 23 (broonie being the granda) the guy is building a team, unlike Villas Boas who inherited a team, give him time, I do admit we need a couple of older heads to blend in with the growing mantle of what we have now, Congratulations Mr Lennon on your league win, I’m already looking forward to next season & I hope it brings you even more success.. 77. I think considering what he has had to put up with he has done well. However I wish he would take a step back and count to 10 or 1000000000 in his case why? because it gives those who loath Celtic the chance to put the boot in and there are plenty doing that already without are fellow Tims doing likewise. I was gutted yesterday and was shouting abuse at the TV so I like many others know and feel like our manager, we can get away with it he can’t. I will support Management and players no matter what. Remember we are the Champions that for me is first and foremost.

  79. Neil needs to stop blaming refs because if he wants to walk alongside Jock Stein he should listen to what he said about refs. If you are good enough they dont matter. Its as simple as that

  81. Sacking Neil Lennon would be a stupid mistake as he should now have the experience to carry us forward next season. Two or three experienced players are a definate for this to happen as we do lack experience and leadership in big must win games. As for his outbursts these must not stop but do need to be carried out in a more appropriate manner. Shouting swearing and screaming leaves him wide open to S.F.A and S.P.L rules. This then leads to bans and the team suffering when hes not on the touchline.

  85. NL is doing fine. Like the team he is young and still has much to learn both on and off the park! On the park he still has to settle on first and best 11 and then strengthen the squad from there. Off the park NL has been superb but recently pressure has told and some reactions would be best avoided! Thommo and Big Dolph could help here more and NL might be better using them more on his behalf! Away from these few incidents anyone who has listened and watched NL punditry knows he has great knowledge and character with great personality! Keep going NL, learn and grow!

  89. I think Lennon is doing a good job and just has to learn how to impact the game with his substitutions. The only thing I would add is I would prefer him to control his temper when dealing with officials as he is playing right into their hands with his recent behaviour.

  91. I have nothing but admiration for the man, he has put up with more SH*T than any other manager has ever had to deal with, as well as building a team that on their day have played some excellent football and brought the title home, so i’m prepared to forgive him for not delivering the double/treble and hope he takes something from it to make us stronger for next year.

  93. Neil Lennon for me stands up when he needs to be counted for his team, he is no different from any other manager, who stands up for his team. Well done neil. Dont let the bastards grind you down hail hail.

  95. Neil must stay! He is passionate about Celtic and the injustice he sees in the refereeing decisions. Someone has to speak out! We have a great young team and with Neil as manager we can only get better. Would be good if the board spoke out more about some of the decisions that go against us.

  99. I’m sorry to say it but I think it’s tome for Neill to go. I cringe when I watch his antics after a poor performance by the team. I really think the job is too much for him and worry about his mental health. When he ran onto the pitch yesterday I and others I’ve spoken to really thought he might hit the ref. He’s become an embarressment…and you can’t say it’s an isolated incident. He needs to go.

  101. “show me a good loser and I’ll show you a loser” – Vince Lombardi.
Neil Lennon has been called many things but never a loser. He has dragged us from mediocrity to being league champions with the prospect of dominating for a long time to come. Let us celebrate the joy that he has brought and not be divided by the agendas of people who are not Celtic fans.

  103. Ross County, Rangers, Kilmarnock and Hearts. All at Hampden and all huge games. Got the feeling if we’d played home or even away we could (should) have won these but we NEED to win big games that win us cups. This has to be addressed.

  105. Neil Lennon has been a revelation in his first managerial position. No one lives Celtic more than he does, he has put up with more in 18 months than any person should in a life time.
    God bless you Lenny.

  107. I think he just needs to cool it a bit! He needs guidance here – he is too volatile for his own good. I don’t get how he hasn’t got the message that he will simply get himself into trouble. Presumably the sports psychologists and his boss, Peter Lawell, are I’m a big fan of Neil Lennon for what he has done to bring a bit of pride and passion back – he’s not perfect but I think there’s better to come if he can channel his energy more positively at times! We are Champions and I doubt if we would be here without him.

  109. Although I understand that Lennon should stand up for his players, he needs to be reminded that he is now the manager of a large business with a responsibility to represent it in such a way as befits its stature. He stands as the custodian of my club, those who came before and those who will continue to support it in years to come. The truly great managers understood this, and funnily enough so did the crap ones.
The club need to publicly make him aware of this now before it gets out of hand. But they should also make it clear that the sfa and referees need to start cleaning house.

  111. Lennon has the passion but I don’t think he is right for the job.
I would like to see a foreign manager come in who can handle the big games, the squad and the media better.

    1. Honest question. Do you not think winning the two major Scottish Trophies in his first 2 years as a manager is good enough considering what he has had to put up with away from his work and the squad he inherited ?
