Open letter to Mr Lawell

Dear Mr Lawell

I am writing to you today with an utter feeling of dread.

Having heard the news that today’s SPL meeting has now been rescheduled for the 30th of May due to a member Chairman having insufficient knowledge to make an informed decision, and Rangers Administrators asking for more time and the 11 present voters agreeing to this I felt the need to contact you.

You see I can sympathise with that Chairman (John Yorkston) for I too am in a similar situation. I recently received my Season Ticket renewal form, and as you are aware, the deadline for returning this is the 18th of May.

Now, I may be becoming cynical in my old age however, I am also wanting to gain knowledge on a subject before sending back my renewal form and committing £600 x 2 to Celtic FC.

At the very least I would expect the deadline of the 18th to be extended until the votes have become apparent.

How does Celtic intend to vote regarding allowing / disallowing a “newco” direct entry into the SPL ?

Please do not flannel me we with “Celtic shall vote in a way that benefits our shareholders” as this does not necessarily mean you will be voting in a way that is morally correct, nor would it mean you were listening to the majority of Celtic fans, nor indeed the majority of other right minded football fans in Scotland.

I realise that the custodians of the club often try to tug on the fans heart strings and rely heavily on the faithful through and through mentality. Not returning to Celtic Park will indeed break my heart, but it will be in the knowledge that I refuse to be led along by 11 men who have deliberately agreed to constantly postpone making any decisions, in the hope of dragging out making the only decision that many Celtic fans are waiting for until the “moneys in the till”.

Will Celtic FC be voting a “newco” direct entry to the SPL ?

A clear yes or no would suffice in helping me make my mind up. If you cannot answer this simple question in an open, clear and honest manner then I will only be able to surmise that Celtic have something to hide and I fear I know what that would be. If that was to be the case then I would not be endorsing such a decision anyway, and I’m sure I will enjoy my first summer holiday abroad with my family with the extra £1200 expenditure I will have in my pocket.

Yours Sincerely

  1. I agree with everything you have said and i feel the exact same way, i will not be renewing my season ticket until i know what the outcome of the meeting will be.

  3. I feel the “old firm” is alive and well take your family on that well earned break and if they do the right thing you can always pick and choose what games you want.

  5. I spoke to a girl in the ticket office this morning and followed it up with an email stating virtually the same as you.
I cannot and will not pay to watch a sport that is not on a level playing field.
Celtic should be showing leadership at this time whether that is offering an even split of TV money or demanding answers from Neil Doncaster regarding SKY/ESPN’s contract.
Celtic should also be contacting the SFA regarding the issueing of a footballing licence to a newco and demanding answers to that.
If these answers are not forthcoming them UEFA should be contacted asking them to intervene in this shambles.
Celtic MUST realise that the old ways are over. For the good of the game we all love there must be a better redistribution of whatever wealth we have. This may help some chairmen make a decision more weighted to sporting integrity.
We cannot continue with a status quo which has failed Scottish football for over two decades.

  7. Quite agree but I doubt you’ll get an answer. If we don’t have a statement of intent from Celtic before the hearts game I think we need some sort of demonstration to show them exactly how much it could cost them. Nobody takes their seat until five minutes into the game for example.

  9. Wholeheartedly agree.
I have emailed all the clubs in the SPL along with Neil Doncaster and Stewart Regan expressing my sincere concerns about the possibility of abandoning sporting integrity in favour of short term commercial interests. And as we all know, the figures being bandied about by the apologists don’t add up. This whole rotten stinking corrupted affair gie’s me the boak.
Scottish football DOES NOT need Rangers(IA).
To be fair and balanced, in strictly commercial terms, Scottish football does not need Celtic either.

  11. I agree with you 100%, it is your hard earned money and as much as I, sorry we all love Celtic there is a tendancy to take the Celtic support for granted sometimes. You have every right to make a stance indeed if every supporter at all SPL clubs ( with 1 notable exception) done likewise, I feel we would have an answer forthwith. Too much pandering to this club, Livingston FC is your precedent, if you change your stance now then that club has every right to sue you & the SFL (too many associations here) for loss of revenue. If this was Clyde, Gretna, or even Dunfermline I feel this would have been dealt with swiftly and mercilessly. Sorry one rule for all clubs……no exeptions. Hail Hail

  13. The financial backlash against their clubs will be more than they can calculate. They need to be careful what they VOTE FOR!! Get the pampered cheats out to where they belong …THIRD DIVISION!!

  15. Mr Yorkson is well versed enough to know that RFC owes Dunfermline Athletic a fortune. How can any director in his position even conceive that retaining RFC in the SPL is financially rewarding to the smaller clubs. Tonight it was confirmed that DAFC were being relegated – perhaps if Mr Yorkson had the capital owed by RFC then he could have invested in new players to keep them in the SPL. The stalling mechanism should (I would hope) mean that because the season is over and DAFC are no longer in the SPL then DAFC shouldn’t be entitled to an opinion on the matter.

  19. As a Celtic supporter, I want RFC in the SPL but I do not think their corruption or tax evasion should go unpunished!
I believe that when we look at integrity, RFC should be relegated to the first or second division. If we look at things like Sky TV revenue then the main pull for the SPL and SKY will be the old firm battles.
Taking these factors into place, I think RFC should be deducted ten points for the next two seasons and a transfer embargo should be installed on them for the next two seasons. While we are at it, this would be the perfect time to restructure the league to a 16 team league with financial rewards dictated by a clubs finishing place in the league, not their status or lack of as a club.
