The Clear out has started but a few more may still go

So far Big Dan, Cha Du-Ri,Dominic Cervi, Darren O’Dea, Niall McGinn and Richie Towell have been moved on without a penny in return however wages have been freed up. The squad was bloated so a decent bit of trimming was required. We are quite well covered in most areas.
Now we get to the point of thinking who we can sell on to not only save on wages but boot any transfer budget which won’t be much.So who in my opinion should we sell on
Paddy McCourt a move south would bring in a few quid, Efraín Juárez who I have read in some quarters has moved but in reality he would have to have been sold as he is 2yrs into a 4yr deal. Maybe he has moved and I’ve missed it. The Big money sale may be Ki but I’d like to see him in the champions league for Celtic but if we can get £6m plus then that’s a tidy return.
others on the way out but for a small fee could be Josh Thompson, Morten Rasmussen and Daryl Murphy
I reckon loosing these players and a small donation from the board should free up enough money us to bring in 2 or three experienced players which I think we all agree we really need esp for the Champions League. Talk from a rag about Victor moving on are simply mince. I reckon the big man will appreciate he is still you and has a lot more to learn and playing for Celtic in either the Champions League or Europa League will help him out and ultimately earn him and the club a good few quid in a season or twos time.
If we could get a decent price for Anthony Stokes that would be a bonus but that’s my personal opinion as I find him a self centred player.
So who would you sell or move on ?

  1. I’d sell Kelvin Wilson, Mo Bangura and Thomas Rogne. I’d keep Stokes and Paddy (who should get more game time in my opinion).

  3. I more or less agree with you. The Juarez deal is very nearly done, the fact he is leaving has been confirmed by Juarez himself.
I would sell Paddy, I don’t understand the hype about him, he’s not THAT good! What he brings to the team is minimal in my opinion. I’d sell him for about £1m if possible (only a year left on his contract).
I think Kelvin Wilson could be sold if we can find someone who wants him. I’m not sure whether Lennon just hasn’t been impressed by him since his arrival or perhaps Wilson is simply not settled up here and wants to go back down south, it seems he is surplus though. His move will only come once we have at least one replacement CB though.
Daryl Murphy is set to be sold for as little as possibly £100k because apparently Ipswich can’t even afford the £300k we are asking for after spending £1.3m to bring him in! Josh Thompson will be for the off, possibly a free or very minimal fee anyway. Rasmussen will go for a about £500k I would imagine, I’m sure someone will come in for him and he will get a move away.
After that, it is who we can or should sell to fund the transfers we need to make. Ki is being touted as the one to be sacrificed, however I like Ki and I think he brings something different to our midfield. Unfortunately though, I don’t think he plays to his best often enough, what he does best, his passing and creativity, doesn’t come through when he plays for Celtic. It’s the little things he does though, he has an air of quality about him when on the ball, he keeps it simple and moves into space to allow others to play. He could well be sold for 6 or 7 million though, it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
For me, I would also consider selling Commons, Samaras and Brown as I feel all three can be replaced without too much hassle. All three can bring something good to the team, but nothing we couldn’t live without.
I can understand people suggesting Bangura should be sold but quite honestly I don’t think he will be sold, at least not this season. I have a feeling he could come good but won’t be surprised if I’m wrong either!
You mention Stokes and I kind of understand why but only if a really good offer comes in would I consider selling him.
In terms of bringing players in, getting Forster and the GK position sorted is a bit of a priority and then urgent attention is required at CB. Getting the right mix of experience but not too old and also in our price range is REALLY difficult. I honestly feel the best options for CB could be the sort of payers with even only one or two seasons experience in Europe. There are some good ones around that have that sort of experience, big physical defenders who can win the ball in the air, that’s what we need!
After that, any money left over would surely go on a big powerful striker to convert some crosses with his head. Then I think a winger or two is needed!
