'No news…is NOT always good news!'

‘No news, is good news’…we’ve all I’m sure, at some point or other in life used a cliche or three.
The last cliche, most commonly serves as an overly optimistic phrase used by an acquaintance, by a family member or even perhaps by a perceptive stranger.
They use it as a temporary form of relief, a shot of (often false) hope, a motivator, a pick me up or to restore a sense fight to a beleaguered mind; a mind, totally over come by some worrisome, obstinate or negative thoughts.
They mean well.
Very few people will ever use that phrase and not genuinely have a degree of empathy, sympathy or hopeless desperation for your plight.
Problem is, that alone does not make it any truer, that alone does not fill us with renewed vigour and with courage…we normally however accept it for what it truely is, ‘an act of compassion’.
The point?! I hear you ask.
Well it is this, today has as expected been a slow day for all concerned in Scottish football, for those fans of ‘former’ old firm alliegance most especially.
It’s probably just as well, because for the Scottish mainstream media, for Rangers fans (sorry) ‘former’ Rangers fans and for the, ahem…’business’men attempting to plot some form of heist; a heist disguised though to be an compassionate body-snatching…for those prospective owners of a newco club, Sevco 5088, this day off was a chance to catch breath and to gather their deeply worrying thoughts.
It must be an enormously tense, anxious and indeed despressing time to be involved in the business of fleecing the Rangers, (sorry) ‘former’ Rangers supporting public.
Today was, for them, a welcome breather, a chance to reflect and perhaps a chance, to firm up upon that exit strategy.
You see for me yesterday, ‘that’ news, the one first acted upon by a blundering, unapologetic, consumer of moonbeams ‘Chris McLaughlin’ of BBC fame, or infamy perhaps, was for me one of two things…
1. A pathetic, desperate and ill concieved ‘plan’ to hold the SPL to ransom, one surely best considered a ‘last ditch’ strategy. Or,
2. A bluff, a (very poor mans) poker face, a switcheroo, a distraction…a ‘dummy’!
If indeed it was, as I tend to favour, a ‘distraction inducing technique’ (surely it wasn’t serious?!), then it would at least have fulfilled some form of purpose.
No other plausible explanation, as I see it, could justify the exceptionally short lived promise of this ‘news’.
It was a slight of hand moment, not a seemless ‘magical’ slight of hand like one employed by an illusionist.
An illusionist would then produce an astonishing conclusion in lieu of it’s deployment…no this was more that kind of clumsy, child like ‘slight of hand’.
You know the the kind? The one where you point over to ‘something’ behind the audience, say “oh look!” whilst preparing to then throw the prop over your far shoulder…only for it yet to be in clear view, only a yard or so to the side of your ‘stage’ position.
Thats how I best explain the blunderingly inadequate, foolish and predictable ‘over there!’ moment of Mr Charles Green and his cronies.
His prize…a days relative peace and quiet, a chance to near the exit door just a little more…another yard between himself and ‘THE’ baying mob!
Like the poor mans magician, Mr Paul Daniels, used to say…”You’ll like it, but not a lot!”.
Now, Mr Charles Green, has managed to convert his hard fought and clumsily thought through ‘hocus pocus’ into a days breathing space, much owing to the willingly subverted mainstream media and more over, Chris McLaughlin and his ‘jump the gun’ reporting style.
“Ah boss, you got me again! You kidder!!” I imagine them to have retorted, with a gullible and rogue smile etched upon their faces.
For one day he bought himself both, space and time.
He fooled no one…except those willingly fooled.
You know the kind who would hear a friendly voice to say, “No news, is good news!” and suddenly find the compassionate, genuine, though utterly spuriously cliched turn of phrase, as reason to draw hope, to thrive upon its overly optimistic meaning and to display that ‘stiff upper lip’ approach.
Like who?!…you know, like say, and now this is just off the top of my head now, the club formerly known as Rangers fans…just for talkings sake. 😉
For them, today, was that temporary, that short lived, that ultimately useless, ‘no news, is good news’ day.
Well like most cliches, it is in fact worthless, meaningless, desperate and hopelessly inaccurate.
You see tomorrows another day and god only know just when the warning shots will end and the ‘nuclear bombs’ take over.
Today for us all of Celtic or other than, they formerly of Rangers persuasion, no news was just that…’no news’.
** Note in respect of this readily, freely and spontaneously changing stories nature, I should really take time out to confirm this, before submitting my work to the good folks at http://www.thecelticnetwork.com/ for their final approval.
Ah what the hell, I’ll take my chances, cause that’s just how I roll!! **
It will not, for the other half of Glasgow, convert itself into anything but respite, a momentary relief, a breather.
This was the calm before the storm.
Luckily we know what comes after that storm…don’t we?!

Hail Hail amigos! 😉

    1. Dead…surely not?! I just heard that Rangers players are set to ‘walk away’ and that Rangers are about to lose the newco vote.
If Rangers had, as you’ve stated…died…then surely the Scottish media, the fine upstanding and morally inspiring organisations that they are, would not still be peddling some cock and bull stories, some blatant mistruths…some Rangers(ish) type propaganda…surely not?!
Tell me it ain’t so!! 😉
