Throughout this whole Rangers fiasco, a lot of attention has been generated from all over Scottish football and it’s fair to say the majority of this has come from rival clubs as it should, primarily from Celtic fans.
This attention has created a reply back from Rangers fans that Celtic fans are obsessed by Rangers’ predicament with most commenting that we love them more than we love Celtic.
With the administration, leading to liquidation during this pre season some other supporters from other football clubs including Celtic have added to this, so why is this?
It’s normal as supporters of sport to comment and add views on our rivals but is there more to the intensity of this attention?
I have my own views which I’ll add later but I asked the #CelticFamily on twitter to add theirs, find these below.
Okay, anyone been told that we the #CelticFamily are obsessed by the manky mob? Let me know your opinions.
@deecelt – certainly am obsessed with all the latest stuff. Poss because no football but Euros atm.
@SpecialBhoy – I have, just say that this is the biggest story Scot football has ever saw! Oh and that we seem to know more about it than them
@TheDeadLiving – nonsense that. We’ve been tainted by their existence for years. You can’t be obsessed with validated paranoia, only vindicated.
@HoopsGhirl88 – lol we are though we tweet more about it than they do fact
And @ShugMac69 replied – its human nature tho…everybody will tweet about a g.i r.f.u.y factor
@TicGran added to this by saying – its good cause it really winds them and anything that annoys a hun is ok by me!!
@IainG88 added – why wouldn’t we be.. it was our main rivals. if you reverse the situation it would be the exact same.
@1CraigBoyce – of course we are at the moment, we’re watching the death of our biggest rivals and there’s a new story every day!
A view shared by many is from @CraigMark1888 – Obsessed for 1 reason if we had not made big deal of it they would be back in SPL already with no punishment.Remember its Scotland
with additions from @david_allan67 – if we weren’t mate, I think a lot of this story would be swept under the carpet. Punishments would be lenient, also…1/2
and @SquirrelKnutz – and remember they said we were paranoid, we weren’t paranoid enough as it turns out
Lastly on the defence of this attention we have @Kev121Ward – Plenty of times but my response is ‘it was your obsession with downing Timmy that got you in this mess
So throughout today, I asked the question why so much attention but it’s clearly annoying some supporters and I can fully understand why.
We are in this solely for Glasgow Celtic Football Club, we thrive on everything Celtic and look forward to everything that matters to Celtic. Celtic First, Celtic Last, Celtic Forever is a saying I’ve been brought up on and this is shared by the vast majority of Celtic supporters.
My own opinion of why so much of our own supporters attention is on the trauma at Rangers is due to a number of different aspects.
1) Throughout the past, we’ve been called paranoid, the creators of conspiracy but with the day-to-day revelations on this subject we celtic fans feel vindicated more and more with this. We’ve (with the help of many sources online) have stepped forward and took the accusation of “being paranoid” personally and provided far more information to this story than our rivals could ever (or maybe not) dream of.
2) With the heartache we Celtic fans have faced during this period of “investigation” we feel that the need to see this through and to report on what may not be reported elsewhere.
3) Given that the season is over, we normally are inundated with rumours of players arriving, is it me or is the rumour mill of any incoming players somewhat quieter than previous seasons? – An addition from someone sceptic of the media, maybe the positive news of incoming players doesn’t sit well considering the news from across the city.
4) Rivalry is just that – Taunt our rivals as when possible, we did it when they (RFC) get beat, we do so when big players leave so why wouldn’t we do it when they’re on their knees?
Again I find it somewhat annoying myself that it’s all RFC this, NewCo that but given the seriousness of the situation and the potential impact any decisions on this matter will have, it’s only human nature to pay attention to the matter.
Going back to how we Celtic supporters feel about our club, the bottom line is this –
Although they are getting all the attention at this moment, the attention they get they can keep. After this farce calms down, we Celtic fans will begin to focus more on our new season, in our premier league, with our extensive and proud history, knowing fine well that we remain the club we were founded as back in 1888.
When the new season kicks off, then normal service will resume.
