'For Whom Are Doncaster & co, Really Acting?'

I have often alluded to the fact, though to be honest you probably wouldn’t have noticed…’much’, that I am not a fan of those who are employed to act in governance of our national game.
To say that I am left a little disappointed by their ineptitude is akin to saying ‘Gary Glitters not my ideal candidate for babysitter of the year’, or that ‘the Costa Concordia cruise round the coast line of southern Italy was said to be a ‘rocky’ ride!’.
You see the truth is I am not a ‘little’ disappointed, I am an awful lot of disappointed, I’m fifty shades of fucking disappointed because of those ‘Grey’ faced, lifeless, personality free, untrustworthy, unscrupulous and inept ‘governors of our game’. If they had a ‘Christian’ bone in their body they would realise that they too have been tempted by the devil.
Jesus, when he felt temptation whilst in the desert, also felt his strength of character and through moral righteousness and through courage, he felt it possible to, and duly turned his back upon the devil…he done the right thing, he rejected a pact with Satan.
Now on the other hand they ‘governors of our game’ have floundered and acted rashly, they chose to accept the devils deal, they’ve struck a pact with him.
Now because of their lack of morality and because they have acted with great greed and with no shortage of impulsion, because they’ve shown complete disregard for the interests and feelings of others and acted without either thought or concern for the potential consequences of their actions, this in itself shows their human side, their weaknesses is after-all but a human characteristic and we should accept that much and should be prepared to show compassion and forgiveness. Indeed we should help these lost souls and offer them the kindness and courtesy so absent in their own actions and thoughts…well that’s how Sunday school would have taught us.
You see, I have a problem with Neil Doncaster, Stewart Regan, Campbell Ogilvie, Rod Petrie, Stewart Gilmour, Jim Ballantyne, David Longmuir and any other ‘sinner’ in this tale of immorality, not for their being tempted by untold riches and for compromising their, and our games integrity, no strangely I can do the acceptance of their initial weak moment, of their temptation and even their acting upon it.
No , what is for me ‘the final straw’, ‘the straw which broke the camels back’ and the ‘tipping point’ that created my absolute distrust of them as people, my resentment of their abuse of position and my utter lack of forgiveness for their actions, is that having been weak enough to feel temptation they were helped out by ourselves ‘the fans’ and latterly even by the clubs themselves, these direction-less, compromised and misguided souls were guided towards redemption, directed by our moral compasses and assisted towards their salvation…they had the chance, on more than one occasion, to open their eyes to the reality of the situation, to acknowledge their faults, to repent and to ask for our forgiveness, to work harder than ever before to re-establish a trusting and meaningful bond.
They had not just the one chance to do the right thing, they had many, they ignored them all…they chose to continue their pact with the devil, they turned their back upon us all, they sold out ourselves and our game time and time again. With utter contempt for our patience and for our guidance, these people, these ‘guilty, immoral’ charlatans of our game will once more, today, attempt to fatally injure our game, all for the price of a dead club and the devils desire…the SKY TV deal!
The lies, the bribery, the threats and the corruption, the scare mongering, the bullying, the gerrymandering and the collusion, they done it all for Rupert ‘bloody’ Murdoch, for SKY TV and for that companies twisted, corrupting and disproportionate influence. Clearly they were well and truly spellbound by, and at the mercy of SKY and their golden TV deal. It’s quite why that most puzzles me…was there a personal ahem, ‘incentive’ involved, or was it purely self massaging of their overblown egos that they coveted most?!
I consider their actions as dereliction of their statutory duties, I consider their work both inept and likely intentionally so. These persons work in senior positions within Scottish football, albeit at varying levels. They all appear to have acted in a secretive, collective and complicit manner, designed to prejudice and to ignore both the integrity of the sport and the vested interests of the games fan base.
To be as utterly unrepentant now, as they were at their initial moment of temptation is both astounding and alarming in near equal measure.
To either an uneducated mind or to a casual and ill-informed observer, this SKY deal must seem like the most coveted, most valuable, most loyal of corporate partnerships, why else would the game be built so reliantly around its wishes? Why else would the integrity of our game, its clubs and even its rules be ‘bent’ to accommodate anything less than a utopic, heaven-sent and mutually exclusive relationship?
Surely this TV deal is a thing of sheer perfection, surely?!
We however all know that perfection, utopia and of great value it certainly is not.
If however you were not aware of the lack of real value the SKY TV deal affords to Scottish football, with or without the team formerly The Rangers FC, please check out the following link;

It’s quite a startling viewpoint upon just how little regard is given to our game by SKY TV and just how little financial recompensement our game gets from having our souls traded with the devil behind our backs.
In truth Neil Doncaster and the cronies he surroundings himself with, have acted negligently and incompetently at best, at worst the only available explanations are way, WAY more sinister.
I often became frustrated by the negative marketing of our game, be that the lame and poorly produced television and radio products that we in Scotland believed to ideally ‘showcase’ our game, or be it the mainstream media and their negative headlines, lazy journalism and their lack of impartiality. That was a lifetime of frustration for me, along with the failure of the SFA to modernise and to encourage a sound youth development model.
Thankfully today we have at least employed Mark Wotte and now appear to have taken infant steps towards a proper structure on the youth development side of our game, the age-old frustration with the marketing exists…nae it has grown ever more obvious, ever more critical…ever more sinister!
When Neil Doncaster and his limited amount of buddies, tell us of the value of the SKY deal, when they say they have negotiated a ‘great deal’, I believe them, but who for I always ask.
Mr Doncaster always appears willing to put himself forward as the saviour of our game, he will openly tell all who’ll lend him their ear, of how tough a negotiation he had with SKY. He tells it like a man who aggressively ‘sold’ the product to a reluctant bidder yet managed to get ‘top dollar’ in return.
He never appeared either a tough and uncompromising character nor such a charismatic, influential and silver-tongued salesman to me. In fact to my mind, he had all the ruthlessness and all the likeability of J.R. ‘bloody’ Hartley and that senile old knobhead couldn’t even negotiate a copy of his own fly fishing instruction manual from the publishers, hence him spending hours and hours each day trying to find the only copy in the entire world left that hadn’t been used to keep an open fire lit for an extra minute, which coincidentally was still 30 seconds more pleasure than reading it had ever given anyone…sorry I digress!!
Anyhow where was I?!
Oh yeah, the SKY deal; if the very best we can get is some left over chicken feed from SKYs massive sports budget that in truth barely kept the wolves from the door, then we should have been tough enough in negotiations to at least sell the product, Neil Doncaster spent the entire build up to the re-negotiation phases, talking up the ‘Armageddon’ that awaited our game should SKY walk away from the table.
Not quite sure Neil got the entire hang of adopting a poker face and of positively marketing the product to his clients…unless of course he was a stooge for SKY Sports, sent up to the backwater of Scottish football to do a favour for his English counterparts by lessening the value and the marketability of our game and therefore boosting both the budget of and the appeal of the English Premiership and even its Championship equivalent.
Why would that happen though?
My theory is that in SKYs mind we had two clubs of any worth to them, two ace cards they could keep up their sleeve and to sell to English and foreign customers. Two ace cards that could potentially be winning hands should or even when the Premiership went a little stale, two big stories and big viewer draws, to at a time and date much of SKYs choosing, that could reinvigorate the marketability of their jewel in the crown.
To accomplish this fully and to ‘tempt’ the Old Firm (R.I.P. Glasgow Rangers), to entice them into a pact with the devil and to abandon their own national associations and top flight leagues, how better to do it than to suppress them both and to make them cast envious and admiring glances towards their neighbours. To tempt them in with baited stories every once in a while regarding the consideration of SKY as to perhaps suggesting to the EPL clubs that these Scottish giants be invited aboard the mothership. Even better if on a few occasions, the northern giants were left disappointed and desperate, despairing and ever increasingly envious.
A tale of baiting and reeling in of a ‘prize catch’, or two, so fishy and so enticing that J.R. ‘Alzheimer’ Hartley himself would be foaming at the mouth.
Doncaster would be an easy plant, a man with no allegiance to our country, well beyond his desire for our salary anyhow, a man with a reputation in English footballing circles which required restoration work of such magnitude that George Clarke would baulk at the thought of it, and a man with no backbone and who would be easily manipulated.
On account of my theory, I must congratulate SKY on a superbly accurate and well qualified appointment.
But how would they get him in there?!
Are you forgetting their potentially enormous influence from day one of the link up with the break-away SPL, the rebel clubs, the clubs who left in such a hurry that rule books were never formed and that such large considerations remained, well unconsidered, that a stagnative voting system had to be employed to empower the big two to protect their value to the game.
Sky had a massive part to play in the control and the manipulation of Scottish football and most pressingly of Celtic and Rangers, so much so that they pulled so many strings that even Biggars famous Puppet Theatre would be envious of their skills.
Did Doncaster sell, or did he gift SKY our television deal?!
I don’t really know the answer to that, then again has anyone ever really asked the question? Not to my knowledge!
I could of course be a million miles out and barking way up the trunk of the ‘wrong tree’…I could of course be paranoid, but just look at the results of our last bout of paranoia.
Regan and Doncaster have failed to unite our clubs and our fans, whether by will or by accident it’s a damning assessment of their credentials…is it really wrong to expect them to do the decent thing and to walk away?
Whatever the answer, I’d like the fans to be involved in the ongoing restructuring of Scottish football, you know the one that’s been ‘ongoing’ for the last three years now, not the Chuckle Brothers…all they do is make a joke out of us.
Ignore the fans again at your own peril, we unlike your integrity and moral values, will not go away!!

  1. Had the same conversation with a pal Brian , they tried for god knows how many years to convince us we were paranoid . I just hope with the power of the net we find out how long the cheating has been going on .My father and many other fans fathers have always said the refs were biased towards the peepul wi wee arras . 1. Dhougal mate, thanks for reading and for taking the time to comment.
Yeah I always thought that within certain circles some protested a little strongly in regard of ‘our’ perceived mental health issues.
Convincing everyone else and even dividing our own fans, through reinforcement of the ‘paranoia’ tag, it would be a good degree easier to conceal the truth…the truth is nothing was quite as it seemed, our game was rigged, we played with loaded dice and the corruption reached the very top of the ‘governance’ model of our game.
The media were complicit and had a key role to play…this ‘outlandish’ theory is designed to provide some food for thought.
One thing is for sure, ‘the truth is out there’. 😉
