Well we can all thank Jamie Langfield for gifting us a goal. The game looked to be heading to a goalless draw until Kris Commons took a speculative shot and found out that Langfield had a hole in him. I think Commons was as surprised as everyone else in the stadium when the ball hit the back of the net.
Before I go any further I would like to thank Sam McLeod for the match ticket and John McClean for his good company at the game.
Aberdeen as suspected set out their stall to frustrate and catch us on the break but to be honest Fraser Forster never had much to do. So all credit to Aberdeen for getting the frustration part right. In all honesty I think it was a right good work out before our trip to Helsinki.
Big Sammy took the Captains armband today and put in a good shift. There was a bit of an injury scare after a rash challenge on him but he got some treatment and got on with the game.
Aberdeen were well organised in fact I’d go as far as saying they gave us a tougher game than Helsinki did mid week. However they made it a hard game to watch but that’s Paw Broon’s teams right over the back.
Celtic had two or three chances in the first half but they all came to nothing although Commons did bring out a good save from Langfield and big Sammy had decent shot which went by. I think we really missed Charlie Mulgrew today because he has an eye for a pass that split teams like Aberden wide open.
Aberdeen were a bit more of a threat at the starts of the second half but things soon returned to normal with Celtic trying to find a way through a packed midfield. Sammy was substituted for Kelvin Wilson about 12 mins into the second half. It looked like Lennon decided to get him off the pitch while he was still fit and keep him for the Helsinki game.
The game ambled on and as I said looked like a 0 – 0 draw. Celtic introduced Paddy McCourt who now seems to have more to his game than he did when he joined the club. Paddy tried his best to get things going and Celtic played slightly better.
People started to make their way to the exit just as Celtic won a corner Kris Commons took it short picked up the return pass and hit a low shot that looked as if it would be safely gathered by Langfield but to everyone’s amazement the ball the keeper let it slip under him and it was one nil to Celtic.
Over the piece I think Celtic deserved the win. It’s not nice playing teams that are set out the way Aberdeen were, in fact it’s enough to put you off football. So there you go a one nil win, three points and a clean sheet. Happy days and now on to Helsinki
