That Dam Infuriating Celtic Board

Before I get tore in I’m a share holder,  I’ve read all the half and annual reports so I know where we are financially. I appreciate the quality of the board members  and to be honest they may be the best in the UK.

Now I know we are carrying a bit debt which probably will increase this year if we don’t either sell a player for good money or have a decent run in Europe that is either the Group stage of the Champions league or at least the semi finals of the Europa league.

This board are taking a massive gamble by waiting to see if we qualify for the group stages before we sign any players. That basically gives us a few days in the market and who will be left worth buying ?

Once again we have seen inaction on a grand scale. This board does not seem to get the ‘speculate to accumulate’ approach to business. To my mind they should have been seeking a Centre half with experience and a big old fashioned centre forward since the market closed in January.

They should have shown faith in the manager and told him to aggressively pursue and mark out targets so that as soon as the transfer window opened we could be in right away and made good offers for the kind of players we need by dangling t e Champions league in their faces.

Now I’m not talking crazy money here I’m talking £10m which we could either cover with selling someone like Ki . The main thing I am driving at is that we would have these guys in place for preseason and get them bedded into the team and hopefully in the process improve the team and the flexibility the manager would need to improve our results in Europe.

Once again for the umpteenth year running the balance sheet is king. What is wrong with having a punt? We have players that if the worst came to the worst we could sell if they are so desperate in keeping debt down.

The best way to keep debt down is to get bums on seats and so far all we have had in way of encouragement is a letter from the CEO Asking us to shell out money with no real promise of a better quality of player.

Rant over..till the next time.

  1. Perhaps the Board don’t have that much faith in the manager. Perhaps they doubt if we will qualify for the CL group stages. On that basis, to their way of thinking, why sign players to win a league that should be a one-horse race? Also, it would appear that season ticket sales are way down on previous years. We have a lot of players picking up big bucks without ever being close to playing for the first team.

    1. Fair Points John but until we can get a bunch of top class home grown players through which I think we are close to we are always going to try and bridge the gap through importing. I’m not slagging the board off just for the sake of it but to be a regular Champions League side we need to take a bit of a gamble. An lets be honest although we have a good side just now many of the imports who have done well have also been honest enough as they see us as a stepping stone to a bigger league. Just now I think we have a good squad of players but I’d like to see a couple of older and wiser players brought in.

  3. I agree we need a couple of experienced players for defence and attack. Our current crop of youngsters is the best for a generation. But does NL trust them? His subs are always predictable. Why not McGeouch rather than Derry Pele? With no new striker, why not have Tony Watt on the bench? With Sevco in the wilderness we have the ideal opportunity to give young players a run of games. And watch out for Jackson Irvine…some player.
