Unacceptable IRA Chants resurface in Dingwall

Celtic have got off to a slow start but improved as the game goes on. However the main chat on social networks before halftime is the constant singing of songs about the IRA.

This is unacceptable to me and the majority of the Celtic support. The IRA may set you free but they can’t score a goal for Celtic. I will be really sad if these songs persist at Celtic games this season. Whether it is home and away these songs are unacceptable as far as I’m concerned.

Last season was fantastic when we stuck to mainly Celtic songs and some legitimate Irish folk songs. Here’s hoping this is a one off

  1. IRA Chants have put an un-necassary pressure on the majority of decent Celtic fans and why are we still having discussions about a team that is of no concern, can we be remebered for our football or will this pathetic behaviour continue to shadow this club, we are alone in the spotlight now, let it go or this will cause untold trouble.

  3. Problem is a subtle one… eg.Boys of the Old Brigade is acceptable, absolutely nothing wrong with songs like that. ‘The IRA will set them free’ mentions the Provos and theres the difference. No need for that but don’t go down the mainstream media route and say that any rebel song is out of bounds.

Its lazy journalism and economical with the truth.

    1. I’m quite happy with the bhoys of the old brigade I class that as a legitimate Irish folk song along with some others. Stuff about the PIRA does not do it for me.

      1. I do agree. I love the rebel songs… the real ones. Stuff about the Provos should be eradicated- no need for it.

  5. Well said – no relevance whatsoever these days (and actually insults the memory of old fighters of ‘the cause’, my great-grandfather included).

This season of all seasons we should be starting to get rid of all that – yes, never forget the roots, but we should be looking forward to building a sectarian-free league over the next couple of years, especially as it will help show up the true bigots for what they are once they get back to play with the big bhoys – if they’re allowed to.

    1. Sectarian?
      Get rid of all that?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the old rebel songs- its the Provo stuff that shouldn’t be getting sung. Methinks you’ve been reading the Daily Record too much- don’t push their agenda for them.

      1. Don’t nit-pick – it’s unacceptable and you know it; IRA chants OK but only if it’s not about the Provos – are you mad? And don’t insult my intelligence about reading the Daily Sevcord. Eejit

        1. Kenny thanks for your comments. I know this is an emotive subject but in future could you please leave the personal abuse out. We are all Celtic fans I don’t think calling each other name helps the cause.

          1. Exactly Jascam. Kenny your knowledge of this subject is exactly what you expect from a mainstream media lackey.

Songs like Boys of the Old Brigade are perfectly acceptable- the Provo stuff isn’t.

Is it that hard to understand?

Ban the old (proper) ‘rebel’ songs and you’d have to ban Flower Of Scotland as well. Go and educate yourself before getting involved in a topic which is way out your depth.

  13. Absolutely agree buddy.

When wearing the Hoops badge, leave your political and social concerns to one side and do the only thing that really matters to our proud club, support the team, sing the many songs of footballing folklore and live and breathe Celtic FC.

Celtic first, Celtic last, Celtic always!!

    Hail Hail
