Butcher is Not McCall, He put’s his own team first

I said from the start that the first time Sevco Scotland came up against a well organised SPL team in a cup competition they would be beaten. I was wrong. My reasoning was that if you are constantly playing 3rd division football then you will struggle when you have to step up and play a team in the top tier.

So Sevco draw Motherwell which I would describe as a well organised SPL side. Motherwell drew Sevco in the cup in the League Cup in September at Ibrox and get beat 2-0. Now at this point Motherwell had got off to a decent start in the SPL This was only one episode in a catalogue of disastrous results against McCall’s former paymasters. For example Motherwell would play Celtic in the SPL and it would be a tight game, the following week they would travel to Ibrox and get beat 4 -0 by the now dead RFC.

The strange thing is Celtic were a better team than the old RFC.

Now we move onto Terry Butcher and his ICT team. I don’t like the man and he certainly has no time for Celtic yet to give him credit his team normally like to play to win regardless of who they are playing. Butchers record against Celtic and the Dead RFC is pretty decent and he sends his side out to be combative against his old paymasters.

Last night Butcher showed McCall up for what he is a guy who is prepared to sacrifice his own team just so Dead RFC/Sevco win. Even Motherwell fans notice this. After their recent defeat to Sevco there was a discussion on a Motherwell forum questioning their managers attitude towards his former club. Now when your own fans start noticing a pattern of one sided results against one team what are the rest of us meant to think?

I still stand by my theory that any well organised SPL team maybe withe exception of Dundee should beat 3rd division Sevco. Well if their manager asks them to go for it.

  1. Well you have articulated what a lot of people are thinking. It is either a great coincidence or McCall really sees the world through blue tinted specs.

  3. I’ve been saying this for about a year now. Every single time Motherwell went up against Rangers they somehow miraculously got hammered. I even started predicted scorelines, and how much Motherwell would get beaten by. At the end of last season when Rangers were getting hammered by everyone it seems that only Motherwell couldn’t beat them, although the margin was far tighter – one goal I think – but I think that’s because a pattern had emerged. I’m not saying that the Motherwell team go out to lose – I don’t believe they do – but it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if McCall was passing his tactics for the match onto his best pal. We’ve all seen the weird little finger shakes they do in the tunnel. I said to Motherwell fans last season that I don’t know how they can put up with their manager always letting their side win against his beloved side. Well at least they’ll not be playing each other for a while so it’s not something that’s going to be an issue.

I would love to write screeds on this topic based on a long lifetime of experiences but many have already done so, expressed it much better than I could and, perhaps, have exhausted the subject beyond excuse. So I will refrain from reiterating it all over again.
I will limit my comments to a few words. Terry Butcher is an Englishman who came to Ibrox for the bucks and believed he was being paid for a commitment to the Rangers’ ethos as well as playing football. I believe he is an upright man at heart and has long since cast off the blue-nose baggage (When something stinks it is nay impossible to get rid of the odour completely). McColl – just one of them! He has and always will sell his soul to their cause and he will be finding little objection at the club he currently manages.
