TCN Poll on Gaza Strip

My own belief is that this is a very dangerous situation which could spiral out of control. I also believe Israel’s acts are totally disproportional and typicle of their disregard of the UN and other nations for example their land grab, blockade of Gaza and the building of illegal settlements on Palestinian land.

  1. The Israeli government have a duty to protect their citizens. After thousands of rockets being fired from Gaza, over 120 in the days leading up to operation pillar of defence, I agree that Israel has the right to try and stop the rockets. According to the Hamas ministry of health 19 Palestinians have been killed, 7 of whom were civilians yet I’ve heard plenty of Celtic fans and others refer to the operation as a massacre or genocide. I regret the loss of civilian life on both sides of this conflict, all civilian deaths are an absolute tragedy but it’s not genocide the Israelis don’t want to kill all Palestinians they want to stop the rockets if their aim was genocide they wouldn’t drop leaflets in advance warning civilians to leave certain areas , they wouldn’t phone thousands of civilians in Gaza to warn them a weapons cache in their area will be bombed, they wouldn’t use roof knocking techniques for example. When are people going to hold Hamas responsible for the level of civilian deaths in Gaza – they store weapons near houses schools and mosques they fire rockets at Israeli civilians from Palestinian civilian areas putting both Israeli and Palestinian civilians at risk. When I visited Israel and the west bank this year I spoke to plenty Israelis and Palestinians all agreed that Israel would eventually have to respond to the increased rockets from Gaza.

    1. See that land Israelis are in. It’s not yours. You stole their land left them
Homeless and in refugee camps which you are bombing , they have no protection and your starving them and refusing medical care. Doesn’t sound so two sided now does it

      1. Totally agree with you Patricia, The Israeli Government are a shower of land grabbing and dangerous feckers. They are only gonny lose more and more of their own people because of this 🙁

  3. Can I just clarify one thing before I begin I don’t believe this is about the Israeli people I believe its about the Zionists which control their government Genocide is “the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group” which is an accurate description of the reasons for the Zionist war machines attack on the Palestinians. The Zionists are not protecting their citizens they are exposing the Israeli people in order to fulfil their ultimate goal which opposes the assimilation of Jews into other societies, they want more of the Palestinian peoples lands devoid of the Palestinian people. In 2000, the editors of the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Palestine Yearbook of International Law (1998–1999) said in reference to the occupied territories “the “transfer, directly or indirectly, by the Occupying Power of parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies, or the deportation or transfer of all or parts of the population of the occupied territory within or outside this territory” amounts to a war crime. 8 Palestinians die daily most of which are children, Israel is in violation of International Law, many people around the world including people from the Jewish religion condemn the Zionists for what they have done and continue to do to the Palestinians. Lets not underestimate what the Zionists are doing, they are pushing this planet closer each day to a world war which will not be fought with conventional weapons, I fear we are on the brink of the ultimate destruction of our planet.

You cant really argue with those breaches with the falsehood that they are only protecting themselves, Can You? I hope and pray we can stop the Zionists and ultimately have them prosecuted as the war criminals they are, before the ultimate destruction of mankind.

  5. Personally, I think its easy to sit & watch the news & watch the propaganda that we in the west are fed, until you actually go to the region & meet these people, understand their everyday lives from a POV perspective, can we really comment?

Hamas are a religious fundamentalist terrorist organization, fact. They use fear & torture to keep civilization in order, life in Gaza is not normal & it never will be as long as Hamas are in control, & trust me, you don’t Hamas to be any nearer the west than they already are.

Israel is the only civilized country in that area, free speech & for that matter, freedom. Something the surrounding countries don’t have.

I myself have spent many months in this entire area & can speak from experience, life in Gaza is not normal & children are being brainwashed punished & even witnessing their parents being executed in their homes for accusations with no trial. How normal is that or good is that? Yes they have running water, electricity & healthcare, but at a price.

Also, don’t you think its a little bizarre how this has escalated so fast? Israel have assassinated armed leaders in the past, with no great resistance, after all, these were dangerous men. The answer is Syria, Iran is the key to to all that is going on here.
Don’t be surprised to find the Syrian army re-supplied with every weapon Iran can give them, after all, who will report it? Alex Thomson?? Doubt it, he’s on his way to Gaza as I write this, as well as hundreds of other journalists, funny that init??

As everyone ‘prays for Gaza’, Hamas are (Inshallah) attacking & shouting Allāhu Akbar.
Do we really need Jolly Boy John to spell it out for us all?

There is more to this than meets the eye…

    1. well spotted ! But it is something that if is allowed to spiral out of control could lead to the death of millions therefore is ripe for discussion on any social network. You might find people in work talking about it are you going say to them “ffs this has nothing to do with work”?

  7. Hamas have fired over 800 rockets at Israel this year,is that the actions of a peaceful democratic government or a terrorist organisation. Are the lives of israeli citizens worth less than those of Palestinians?no if course not, even if Israel granted Hamas all their wishes they would still attack and kill Israelis, they do not want peace.hamas choose to put their citizens lives in danger,by stopping rocket attacks there could be peace, but that is not in their agenda

    1. If you go through the archives you will see that we discuss lots of non Celtic topics. This just happens to be the biggest story out there that is grabbing peoples interest and I do not apologise for posting the poll.

  9. This is a football site, but have a look, it brings many differing factions of the Celtic Family together. A family that pride itself on the “right thing” For me sometimes football takes a back seat. People, men, woman and kids, people just like us, and our family are being murdered, I am not saying I am now disinterested in Football, but imagine for a second this was us, imagine for a second our families had to go through this, living in fear 24/7, Children dying. If a kid any of us knew was murdered, or a brother, a mother, a father, how would we act? I already know the answer. It has to stop, and we as a club must show a heart, compassion and show whoever is listening “Football aside, this is wrong”

I think what Israel is and has been doing for decades now is genocidal, the world for me is backwards. Nobody will rush to the aid of Palestine, if they do, the war will spread. This area is a bad area in the world, and it will take one word, one action to set it all off, then football won’t be important.

    Just my thoughts.

  11. I know I am very late coming to these discussions but those that are familiar with my comments, know that I simply have to have my say. So I make no apology for writing this twenty four hours after the post appeared, though I did manage a vote just before bed in the early hours of this morning. Besides, yesterday I was busy attending to my fragile health by receiving some necessary ongoing servicing most of the day and was unwilling to rush into saying something off hand and unconsidered on such a delicate subject.

I would make three main observations about what I have read so far. First of all, although this is overwhelmingly a site for the Celtic minded to make comment, it is also one that has wider input as well. Can I just point out that many of the discussions and posts on The Celtic Network relate to the potential mass destruction of Scottish football by Rangers FC of old and by the current disruptive affairs of the newly established The Rangers FC. Surely no one can claim that many of the issues raised by these topics have not drawn responses that are far and away beyond the realms of football and taken fans into areas of social, religious and political debate. It is not feasible nor even acceptable that our opinions be cocooned in a footballing bubble. They deserve a broader platform and have been provided one by this outstanding website. The fact that the bulk of the articles actually deal with Celtic related topics is an added incentive to air our views on what we maintain is at the heart of our club, justice, truth and charity. It stands to reason, therefore, that those of us who follow these ideals should look, and we have done, beyond our football team to the greater socio-economic, political and religious issues confronting our own nation and those with problems throughout the world. No one would wish more than I that there was nothing more important in my life than football and in particular my beloved Celtic. If there were a heaven on earth then talking Celtic would be mine. Unfortunately, the reality is that football often has to sit on the back burner when real life issues are to the fore. Ask The Thai Tims, Little Oscar and the many others who have benefited from our concern, commitment and generosity.

My second point is that those who have ownership of and run this site also have the right to determine what content it contains. If they decide that it will cover a narrow field such as football, then that is their right and I would choose to take part or not on that basis. Should they, as they seem to have done on this current topic, decide that they welcome debate on wider subjects than football then that too is their prerogative. Once again, I accept that decision, even though I am happiest discussing Celtic or football, generally. I am sure that those involved would quickly moderate any comments that were not in keeping with their agenda or outwith the realms of their interests.

Finally, on the topic of the turmoil and slaughter in the Middle East, I am reluctant to offer an opinion. My reasoning is that it is so complicated and so infused with historical and distorted complications that it is difficult for any outsider to make a true and balanced assessment. For me, it is reminiscent of the Northern Ireland problems. There are issues that go far, far deeper than the purely limited and superficial reports and images that are portrayed by the media. There are also powerful political, religious and economic influences at play. Alliances, regional and national, natural resources and blind, deep rooted hatred all influence the activities, decisions and policies that we see and hear in the press, television and radio. There are only two things of which I am certain and they have both had their part to play in the devastation and solution in Northern Ireland also. The first is that the slaughter that we see and hear of on a daily, if not hourly, basis is utterly inhuman and is the action of heartless men without conscience. Secondly, until someone recognises that brutality and non-discrimination solves absolutely nothing, ever; that an eye for an eye only leads to further vengeance and the continuation of violence and that the only route to peace is sitting down with the enemy in discussions to seek compromise and resolution, no matter how repugnant that seems, then this species of ours is heading for the moment of self destruction. The conflict in the Middle East could well hasten this final outcome.
