Last night at Tynecastle we watched as the celts finally responded to the task at hand and turned in a performance that showed how good we can be on our day and how good we should be consistently in the SPL as that is, after all our bread an butter as it were.
I wasn’t able to attend the match so had to settle for ESPN coverage and the inane ramblings of a certain Mr Burley, however that allowed me to see that even before the match started we had the fire in our belly from the way Neil Lennon began his pre-match interview, I’m sure the girl doing the interview was left in no doubt that the gaffer was up for this match!
Onto the game and I will be honest I will never tire of seeing Celtic thrash Hearts in their own midden, their fans hate us and never let us forget it when we visit so it makes it all the more sweeter when we punish them. From the off Celtic were right in about them and when Lassad tucked away the first at the back stick after a terrific cross from Commons im the 10th min the stage was set for a terrific Celtic performance. Mikael Lustig notched another goal for us on 22mins in what is proving to be a great season for a player who had a tricky start to his Celtic career but who now looks every inch the Swedish internationalist we hoped we had signed. Ryan Stevenson then turned one into his own net on 30mins and the game was all but over as a contest and allowing the travelling Celtic fans who were already in fine voice to go into complete wind up mode!!
Having recently put one club with tax troubles to the sword, we already had a few pre-prepared songs and ditties for the diet zombie hoardes, a few personal favourites were ‘ohhh LIQUIDATION LIQUIDATION NANANANANANA’ and ‘THIS IS GONNY BE A TESCO’ and ‘DIE LIKE THE RANGERS, YER GONNY DIE LIKE THE RANGERS’ all of which will have endeared us even further to the home fans!!
The second half seen us take the foot of the gas a little but we still controlled most of the match and there were more than a few great performances from our players out there, Efe ambrose was class all night, its hard to believe he only joined us on deadline day in August! Charlie Mulgrew was the ESPN man of the match, constantly raiding down the left and whipping in crosses that neither the Hearts defence or ‘keeper could do much about, in fact Celtics 4th an final goal of the night came from one of those crosses on 83mins, inch perfectly delivered to Hooper to knock in on the six yard line, the cross was so good Hooper never even had to move to knock it home. A great performance from a Mulgrew who, for me has looked like he has needed a rest recently. However my man of the match and probably most Celtic fans MOM had to be Fraser Forster or ‘la gran muralla’ that might sound strange, how can your goalie get MOM on a night when you thrash a team 4-0 well ‘the great wall’ showed again last night just why Neil Lennon was correct to splash out £2m on him. The big man put in a performance that was up there with his Barcelona heroics! Hearts threw everything they could at the big man and big Forster stood up and said ‘thou shalt not pass’ every save he pulled off last night was right out the top drawer, and the moment Willie Collum awarded Hearts a penalty in the 89th min we all knew and i think everyone in the stadium knew the big man was going to save it, and save it he did!! the highlight for me however was the fantastic double save in the first half from point blank range. An outstanding performance from the green giant, that just left you wondering ‘how good can this guy get?’
Well done big man. Well done bhoys. Well done Neil Lennon. We are back on track and everything is rosy in Paradise again.
BRING ON THE SPARTAK!
