So the Daily Record sat on the Anthony Stokes story before deciding to release it on the day of Celtic’s match against Hearts in Edinburgh? People are asking why? Why would they deliberately do this? Well Im asking ‘are you surprised!’
The relationship between Celtic and the Daily Record has never been a particularly rosy one, remember the hearse? Indeed one of their staff has been banned from Celtic park for his less than pleasant attitude towards our club. The staff at this ‘newspaper’ have previous for stirring up trouble for Celtic staff before big games, we all remember amongst others the infamous ‘who’s more hated, Lennon or the tax man story’ before we clashed with oldco.
Again we ask why would they do this? It’s simply because the people (or should that be peepul?) at the Daily Record love a good anti-Celtic story before a big game, and despite purporting to be against and abhor sectarianism and bigotry, they feast on it and have for years. The whole newspaper industry in Scotland has, except now we, the fans don’t rely on them any more for their mis-information we have new ways of getting the news we want when we want it. So again ask yourself why would they do this?
The simple answer is they are pandering to the country’s largest demographic hoping to shift a few more copies of their dying chip wrapper of a newspaper with no regard for the safety of anyone connected with Celtic, wether it be the fans travelling to Tynecastle tonight or even our players or manager who was attacked on a previous visit there. In fact there may even be a case to state that not only are they pandering to Scotland’s largest demographic but most some people at the Daily Record form part of that demographic, they may indeed hold and share some of the more unsavoury views from that portion of Scotland but maybe that’s just Timothy being paranoid again.
When will Celtic F.C completely ban the Daily Record from Celtic Park? Why allow an organisation that has shown itself countless times throughout the years to have a blatant agenda against your club through your doors?
That’s the real question we should all be asking.
