Mirror Mirror by Pensionerbhoy

It strikes me as curious that anyone would want to deface one’s own image for the sake of someone else.  As unique individuals it is only dignified that we should always respect ourselves, who and what we are.  If my premise is correct then surely it is inconceivable that someone, given a golden opportunity not to, would wish to replicate those personal characteristics that are downright objectionable or even repellent.  Yet this would seem to be very much the case with Mr. James Traynor of media fame or, depending on the colour of your reading glasses or hearing aid, infamy.
It is important to understand at the outset that Mr. Traynor had few if any redeeming characteristics anyway in the eyes of most football supporters outside one particular club.  However, to the utter dismay of many he took an extraordinarily individual stance, very much in contrast to his usual approach, on a very “delicate” subject relating to that club.  It won him not a lot of friends but temporarily gained him a spec of respect from most quarters.  Was there another side to this man of the press that was being suppressed within a controlled mind or by overfeeding on succulent lamb?  A test had to come along some day to prove his ingenuousness.  Meantime the public were willing to take him at face value and uncommonly gave him credit for his views.
Not so long in the distant past, this gentleman of the press was stating categorically that a football club and especially one particular football club could be bought or maybe simply “stolen” for whatever price.  To him this was never an issue.  Included in the sale could be all the trophies, the buildings and grounds, the staff (rightly or wrongly) and every trinket, bead and bobble that could be found in the treasure chest.  He even accepted that the club’s history and trophies could be included in the price, a notion that caused much controversy and conflict among Scottish football supporters in general.  However, he was absolutely adamant that the old liquidated club was gone for ever and that the new entity, under no circumstances whatsoever, could be the same club.  No matter the heartache he felt at the birth pains of the newly born, he would not compromise on this one issue.  He would not acknowledge, as his covert masters would have wished, that the new born was a mere continuance of the old liquidated football club miraculously re-conceived and reborn without a parent of any sex being involved, a concept that would stretch the imagination of even the most faith obsessed believer.  If such a process is possible, then I unconditionally acknowledge that God is on the side of The Rangers.  However, in spite of his antipathy to all things sacrilegious in the new club, he continued to antagonise the public with his undaunted support for and his undying loyalty to the new foundations.  But, he continued to stubbornly refuse to submit to the luring  pressures of the football heretics within the new club to concur with the false image of themselves.  As far as he was concerned, in public at any rate, any attempt at continuance of the old club was completely illegitimate.
That was till recently.  In November 2012 the same Mr. Traynor resigned from his, probably very lucrative, media posts to take the P.R. reins at Ibrox which like many of that club‘s CEO‘s inventions appeared to be created rather on the spur.  His withdrawal from the public platform was regarded in some important quarters as somewhat bizarre, if not ignominious, but it did bring about the chance for the long desired demise of his public persona, for him to blend into the background and alter his ill-fated image.  But instead, this once Adonis opposite of the Record Mob, has resurrected himself in a new gang and from his grave of past ridicule and globally welcome oblivion, has proceeded to reincarnate a seeming more horrific media-mobster image than that with which he was once so infamously infatuated.  I have to say that if I were a Kray twin, for example, reincarnated in my own image, I would most certainly wish to lie low and definitely avoid my old haunts on the streets of London.  If I had to be seen in public then at the very least I would attempt to ingratiate myself to those I had offended against in my past life.  I would also probably look to change my name, Sally might be a good choice and it fits with the ability to pull a multitude of false faces for the camera, ever useful and extremely popular in certain circles.  I simply can not believe I would not do all in my power to change people’s perceptions of me by at least appearing to be a totally different character.  But our ex-media maniac, Mr. James Traynor, rather than reinvent himself has incredibly managed to make his first public appearance of note even more unedifying than his original presentations.  Not only has he done nothing about looks, character or mentality, he has upped his explosive rage and increased his uncontrolled and offensive outbursts.  This blustering fool of a bum steer has engaged in the rant of a lifetime completely overturning his previously held beliefs about liquidated football clubs and has abusively fumed about the unsubstantiated and imaginary antagonism towards his new employers while threatening legal action for anyone directing similar accusations or abuse at him.  The same old Jamesy, can hand it oot but canny tak it!
Mr. Traynor may have walked the rocky road of disinformation and total avoidance in his past media role, but now treads a tightrope of twisted implications and untested mental aberrations, wrapped in the blue touch-paper of threat and rage.  Those that took him on board the balloon will without doubt cast him to the four winds when he becomes, or rather is discovered rather to be totally ineffectual.  Once the weight on board the floater has to be reduced, his will be the first rope slashed and he will be “chucked” (I do hope you like the pun, dear reader) unceremoniously overboard without conscience or sympathy.  For the moment his gusto suits the agenda of those pumping the hot air.  It helps to keep them on the rise drifting freely and unchallenged on the thermals of gullible supporters and shareholders.  He really ought to take one of the many wake up calls on offer.  There is undoubtedly no shortage of opportunities given the alarm bells constantly ringing in the posts of accommodating internet semi-literate bloggers.  He simply has to open his eyes to the fact that this smooth balloon ride he is currently on is drifting fast to nowhere but ‘burst-land’ and oblivion.  If he stubbornly remains asleep, he may find himself at the very core of the explosion.  A good long look in the mirror might be a very good move before continuing with his self obsessed role.  He will be abhorred by the reflections he sees but at least he may have time to jump basket before it nose dives from on high and crashes with all hands on board.

It always puzzled how he got away with his style of journalism in this day and age. I guess its because we are a small country still with a divisive sectarian culture and he just get exploding his cultural bombs to keep the cracks open.
However, I think his assertion that if the CVA were not successful Rangers would die along with its history and trophies was an attempt to put pressure on third parties. You see this delusional man actually thought he held great sway in our world. He actually thought that his articles carried the gravitas and respect to sway those who are NOT ‘semi-literate’. The fool really did think he was ‘the man’ the guiding voice of reason in a world of an anti-rangers [capital letter omitted] conspiracy fomented in Rome with the devil Celtic [note capital letter] their ambassadors.
When it came to pass that rangers really did die…he couldn’t handle it! His death rattle could be heard up and down the corridors of the Daily Record and he had to go. Pushed or by choice it was the only sensible the result.
You are right Pensionerbhoy his scribblings in a football programme will only delight those who see the world through his eyes. He will not delight the investors, that is for sure. I agree he will become the embarrassment that he was at the Daily Record and he will slip slide into one of the cracks he helped keep open ranting about the injustice of a world that doesn’t see his club as being the force for good they always were. He will end up deluded, derided and damned.

  3. A great piece Mr Pensionerbhoy, all the agendas came out when Jabba moved, the SFA we knew about, the refs, Dallas and his cowboys were found out, but we never suspected he was so far in bed with the ‘new and improved history.’
One thing is for sure if Charlie Green keeps on the same course as ha has been carrying on, then Jabba will be working a lot harder than he ever did at the DR.
