A James Forrest wonder goal saved Celtic from a defeat today in a game we should have won by 4 maybe 5 goals, we created a lot of chances in both half’s

We started the game strong, we were in full control of the game and were passing the ball about very well, but linking up in and around the box wasn’t 100%. Early on Kris Commons had 3 good chances; the first a strike from 20 yards flying over, then a header that went over the bar followed by a brilliant chest take and lob over the keeper, but also the bar

In the 17th minute bad defending by Van Dijk allowed Paul Heffernan in and he slotted past Forster, but looking at the goal again, he was offside by a yard, the goal should not have stood, but we can’t make excuses when we are not converting chances ourselves

Darnell Fisher played at right back and the young Englishman was superb throughout, he got to the by-line and got a few crosses in, Hibs took the game to Fisher early on as expected but got very little change out of the young man

Just before half time Pikku should have made it 1-1, the ball was squared to him in the centre of the box and his shot was blocked, perhaps some composure, a touch, and he would have scored

Into the second half and Celtic ran the game, Kayal had a shot blocked, Brown blasted over from 20 yards, Pikku also with a good shot from the edge but right at the goalkeeper

With it looking like Celtic were not going to score up stepped James Forrest with a wonderful goal, he ghosted past a few players and with his right foot passed a curling shot into the far post, brilliant solo goal. Here is the goal below

With 15 minutes to go and 1-1 we all hoped a second goal would come, but it never, we were wasteful in front of goal, Pukki wasn’t playing his roll well today, Stokes played a brilliant pass along the 6 yard line and the only player near was Van Dijk, Forrest had a volley from 3 yards blocked, we just couldn’t get the 2nd goal

On the day a game we should have won, we turn our attentions to Tuesday night and Ajax now. We will have no Brown or Matthews, Lustig looks as if he won’t make it and sadly Commons has what Lennon said “A hamstring problem that could keep him out for 3 weeks” Today was a disappointing result but losing Commons was the biggest blow of the day

Final Score: Hibernian 1-1 Celtic

  1. All due respect. You were the better side, but to say you should have won by 4 goals is ludicrous. Hibs defended well and had lots of possession. 1-1 was a fair result

    1. Opinions are allowed Robert, no argument. I think Commons, Forrest, Pukki all missed sitters. I think with your goal being off-side, and us missing good chances, what I was saying was “It could have been 4-0” and to be fair, it could have been. But 1-1 and fair play to the Cabbage…Cheers…
