Since we beat Ajax 2-1 two weeks ago, Ajax have drew 0-0 against RKV FC and been beaten 1-0 by Vitesse Arnhem both games at home, so they are not firing well at the second. Celtic meanwhile beat Partick Thistle 2-1 away and drew with Dundee United 1-1. So comparing both teams league form, Ajax picked up 1 point with two home games, we got 4 points from one away, one at home, but we all know come Wednesday, all this goes out the window, we must raise our game
Come Wednesday we will have Samaras, Commons and a few others back, possibly Derk Boerrigter will be fit for this one. Missing Brown is a blow, but if we can get Commons and Samaras back, and stack the midfield, I am guessing a midfield three with Kayal, Ledley and Mulgrew. Commons playing a free role with Stokes up front, Forrest and Samaras on either wing and a back four of Lustig, Ambrose, Van Dijk and Izaguirre. So the back 4 will be as it was. The midfield I think we will see the biggest changes
Ajax I believe are there for the taking, and if we don’t lose this game and beat AC Milan at home, I truly believe we can finish 2nd in this group, not losing on Wednesday I think will guarantee us European football after Christmas, we stay ahead of Ajax on points, we play AC at home as Ajax take on Barcelona.
I said in the first blog I did about the Champions League that if we kept the home form good and got something, anything away, we could get out this group or prolong European football after Christmas. If we can replicate what we did away to AC Milan, I really think we can get a good result on Wednesday. I watched the Ajax game at the weekend where they got beat 1-0 from Vitesse Arnhem and they were very poor and got booed off the park by the fans as they sit 6th in their league
“It’ll be a totally different team [against Ajax],” said Lennon. “We’ll be a lot stronger going into the game. “If we can replicate the performance in Milan we’ve got every chance.” Was what Lennon said at the weekend, he sounded confident, and with Ajax missing a few players and playing poorly, this is a chance for Celtic to really go for 2nd spot in this group
