Devastating Celtic take 7 from Hearts

One of the best performances for many a year today from Celtic. A diamond midfield allowing the full backs to be 30 yards from Hearts goal most of the game. Biton was superb in his first full game, the whole team was just superb, hard to pick a man of the match

Neil Lennon said after the game “That was the best performance since I have been manager” That says it all, the man is delighted. He wanted a reaction and he got one. This is a Champions League Team Celtic have and today it showed. Lennon also said it was a statement after media criticism from Media crap after losing in Europe, well said Lennon on his 200th game in charge

Celtic went 1-0 up on 3 minutes a cracking ball through by Ledley and Commons drilled it home for a wonderful start. 18 minutes later 2-0 and this time superb from Mulgrew, he took a quick free kick finding Commons in the box 10 yards out 6 yards wide of goal and Commons hammered it home, 21 minutes played and 2-0

3-0 and the game was over as a competition on 34 minutes when Celtic got through again, Ledley hit the post and there was Scott Brown to win the game with a 2 yard tap in. 4-0 came when Ledley got on the end of more amazing play then 5-0 and WOW Lustig got the ball, ran into space, kept going and from 25 yards lashed an unstoppable shot high in and off the bar, superb from Celtic

5-0, Half time and the best 45 minutes I have seen from any Celtic side in many a year. The passing was superb, the formation was awesome, it worked brilliant. Celtic pushed Heart high up the park all afternoon and at times the entire defence in the Hearts end for long spells

6-0 came on 58 minutes a penalty to Celtic, Commons was always taking it and he hammered it home. Hearts worst ever defeat is 7-0 and I was willing 8 goals but not to be. 7-0 came when Scott Brown got his second with a right footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom right corner.

The game ended 7-0 and Celtic were just spectacular.

Man of the Match, Kris Commons, Biton was superb, so was our width, not a failure today, perfect 10/10, you will be hard pushed to see a performance like this for a while, although I hope it’s every week. The one Minutes silence at the start of the game was observed perfectly. Great day all round

  1. A great performance today from Celtic. Commons was excellent in an excellent display from the team. Very pleasingly, Nir Biton gave a cool, creative and composed display in the midfield; never flustered and picking excellent passes out. A phenomenal performance. The minute silence was respectfully observed by all. The Hearts youngsters did not resort to rough play and tried their best to stem the tide. They were caught by a rampant Celtic on the day and will get over this to make progress.

I have been out of circulation for several days now and I am doing a very fast catch up. Thank you for all your efforts to bring folk like me some personal insight into games and performances that is missing if one is not physically interacting with others in the stadium. At a time when the mainstream press could not be trusted to write on blank paper, it is great to have someone like yourself telling it as it is with a personal opinion to follow.

As TSF says above, the Hearts game was a “great performance”. In fact, in several weeks of turmoil, it was a shining star in an otherwise grim firmament. It all began with an impeccable display of respect from every individual in the ground during the minutes silence for those who died and were seriously injured in the Glasgow pub/helicopter tragedy. There have been several devastating events in the world in recent months, but none ever seems as bad as the one next door. My prayers and thoughts are with all those who died and those injured or affected in any way.

Such admirable behaviour was enhanced by the restraint of the support with regard to songs, pyrotechnics and other offensive activities that have placed the club in a precarious position over the last month or so.

A good start from the crowd, seemed to transform with relaxed ease to the pitch where the players appeared inspired to a glorious display of football in the first half. It is hard to think of a better team performance in many a year, including European games. We may have achieved more astounding results, but we have never reached such heights of football brilliance. It was first class. The second half was what is never wished for but always happens. One team taking it easy and the other simply disheveled. Thus it drifted to the end with a couple of additional goals to round off. A bit like the pudding and the port (yes, I lift my pinkie when drinking tea from the china – mug with nae hon’le :)) after an excellent roast. There may be cause to dissect whether the result was as it should have been given the disparity between the two teams but there have been enough gripes over recent weeks to give criticism a rest and simply enjoy the moment.

Finally, a quick word for Wullie. Sorry to read about your illness. Take your time to get back on your feet. I am sure I am far from alone in thinking of you and yours. If you do not mind, I will say a wee prayer now and then for your speedy recovery.
