Celtic grind out 1-0 win away to Saints (Goal Video)

_71959333_vandijk-celebrationA good 3 points for Celtic today and a game we may have drew or lost in seasons past, in truth we should have scored more and ST Johnstone had chances late on to score. Celtic deserved all three points and it was good to see the team playing good football today, being patient and not forcing play

15 minutes in and a possible goal of the season (Video Below) Van Dijk had the ball in space in Celtic’s half, he took a run Celtic players split the play for him by running defenders out into wide areas, Virgil kept going beat a defender or two and passed the ball in the near post, a wonderful goal from an outstanding player who is fast becoming a fans favourite, the kid is IMMENSE

Celtic had many half chances and crosses into the box, shots by Commons, Ledley, Stokes and  a snap shot by Ambrose in the second half were amongst Celtic chances. With Forster making a good save when the Saint’s were through with 10 minutes to play. May was in Van Dijk’s back pocket the whole game and had to go wide at times to get the ball, when he did Izzy did well, a cross by May flashed across goal but apart from that St Johnston had possession outside our box but never got past us too much

At the other end Celtic had many half chances an good chances to get the 2nd goal but in fairness to the side 1-0 and minutes remaining we looked like a side who knew  they would see the game out, we don’t get too flustered in domestic games these days

Van Dijk scored the winner

A good 3 points we take back to Glasgow and are now 11 points clear. Lenny said he wanted to open up a bigger lead in the league as a lot of teams around us play each other over the next month. If we can keep doing what we did today there should be no problem. With Lenny assuring us faces will be coming to the club in January, with the young Icelandic striker already in the door things looks good. Losing Ledley, for me would be a blow. He is a cracking player and one I hope we don’t lose. With Balde coming on late and Pukki not getting on I am wondering what will happen there, Pukki maybe needs time but he started superbly when he arrived but has now lost all confidence, we have to see what happens there. With Watt coming back we will have a few strikers

TCN Reported man of the match – Virgil Van Dijk, just utter class as an attacking player also, here is his goal thanks to “cfchuddle

I hope everyone had a good Christmas. HH
