Mature Celtic win battle in the highlands (GOAL VIDEO)

Commons is the match winner in 3 minutes

A game with really not a lot to report on, Celtic took the lead on 3 minutes, great 1-2 with Samaras and Stokes sent Commons in to drill home from 5 yards at an angle to get Celtic off and running

Main man right now

The game was just a midfield battle, Celtic held well, Inverness came at us but we held well, Forster made a few easy saves but we kept Inverness to long shots and at 1-0 Celtic we showed how we have matured as a team over the last few seasons. We do still need a striker as we had several chances to just slot the ball home, Brown, Stokes and Commons amongst the players to miss easy chances

Kris Commons as I though early in the season has become very crucial to us, he scores he created and he wins free kicks and slows play down. As a team today we played it well at 1-0, we knew if we went for second we could open ourselves up at the other end

I thought it was a very mature performance by a team lacking players in certain positions, Samaras was very poor today, Stokes held the ball up well early on then drifted out of the game. But sometimes we must turn the coin around and say well done to the other side for stopping us playing

Last season or the season before we would have lost points today, this shows the maturity we have worked on and the 2 seasons of champions league football is showing we are learning to win ugly. Before the game started I said “by hook or crook” I wanted 3 points and we did exactly that. We were not superb, again we do lack a good striker and a good creative midfielder

In terms of end of season DVD’s I think they may leave this game out

3 points, hard place to play, Inverness had a lot of the ball 30 yards out but they couldn’t get past us. We were mature in the way we slowed the game down and Lennon did well in his tactics today. I was checking twitter while the game was on and people were having a go at Lennon and I thought it was out of order, leave comments till the end of the game

Hard place to play, 3 points, we go home STILL UNBEATEN!

Lennon interview after the match:

Lennon said after the game 18 unbeaten and delighted and scored in every game in the calender year. He said we don’t get the credit we should be getting in the press as the press say it is an easy league. He doesn’t want to talk about an unbeaten season, one game at a time. He says Commons has been HUGE and always depends on him. Saying one player is nearly signed, no bids made but is looking hard. Lennon said he is very hopeful Samaras and Ledley will be part of the team for the season and seasons to come

I would simply comment this shows your reading of the match and its outcome as very mature indeed. Says it all. Well done. Now to 2014 and some entertaining football once the league business is dealt with. It is worth reminding ourselves that every week simply can not be a hum dinger. Motherwell’s 5-0 drubbing and Hearts’ 7-0 humiliation are rarities just as Barcelona’s 6-0 v us was. The bread and butter requires a lot of grinding and perseverance and this team, though still lacking a lot, are learning to do that.

    Thanks Shaun as always.

    1. Hi Arthur and I hope you are having good holiday time with family.

You know as well as I do we can never see “The perfect game” every week, entertainment is something I think Lenny is looking for but we have to sometimes say “The other side did ok” Same as when we beat Barca, they had to say “Other team did ok” We were not on the front foot that night, but it was the result. You know all this.. lol

As the guy who does the match reports I can only read it one way or the other. I am positive and couldn’t believe some of the comments with 30 minutes to go. End of it all, 3 points to take home, Lenny was delighted I was happy we got the hard fought 3 points. I think we would have lost something last season there. Still unbeaten in the league (Easy league the media tell us, a media we dislike)

I think Lenny wanted to keep Hooper and Wanyama longer, kids he put on the shop window. And now realizes he will most likely keep loosing best players, but not them all.

      And totally my pleasure,,,

Thank you all for a brilliant 2013. It has a been a joy to read your blogs and comments during the last year and I look forward to more of the same fire and fervour in support of our club, with all its faults and failings, in 2014.

A very sincere happy and peaceful New Year to one and all.

Sláinte chuig na fir, agus go mairfidh na mná go deo agus go mbeire muid beo ar an am seo aris.
(Health to the men, and may the women live forever and may we be alive at this time next year.)
