2014 A Year For Reconciliation

2014 A Year For Reconciliation

Well a Happy New Year to you all.

So last year was quite good for the club. Last 16 of the champions league along with a League and cup double thrown in for good measure. Off the park a fantastic financial performance which allowed us to spend around £11m in the transfer market, drop the price of season tickets, install wi- fi and upgrade facilities for kids and our disabled fans. On the football front the downside was poor recruitment and a very poor  Champions league campaign, oh and a brass neck in the league cup.

We also had issues off the field regarding sections of the support, mainly the Green Brigade, the living wage and the major question of why our club have not went through the SFA like a ton of bricks regarding Rangers FC (IL) illegal entry into the CL in 2011.

The above have caused splits in the support and unfortunately some of it has been nasty and vindictive. I have had time to think things over during my wee break and my honest opinion a lot of this stuff could have been solved through better communication between different parties involved.

Quite frankly and I’ve said this for years. Celtic’s PR is very poor, their engagement with the vast majority of the support is basically nonexistent. The appointment of John Paul Taylor was a step in the right direction. John Paul is a great guy who does a good job, but I sometimes get the feeling he’s stuck in the middle with thankless task. I tip my hat to him because it’s not a job I would touch with a bargepole.  As for the Green Brigade, I have told senior members that their PR is stinking and therefore at times they can be their own worst enemies. Both Celtic and the Green Brigade really need to get their communications sorted out. Otherwise the SMSM will just do what they love doing which is to run us into the ground.

Both Celtic and The Green Brigade do fantastic work in the community. Therefore I hope they can get around the table and sort out their differences.

We supporters in general could do with the club communicating to us, where reasonably possible how far down the line we are re: pursuing the illegal entry of Rangers (IL) in to Europe in 2011. Also why we have not tried to get compensation for the millions lost due to Rangers(IL) financially doping the game in Scotland for almost 20 years.

So it’s my wish that we can open up better lines of communication between us all this year and get on with enjoying what should be the best time ever to be a Celtic fan.

Finally a friendly word of warning. Whether you are a good friend of mine or not I will be blocking any of this sites followers on Twitter etc who indulge in calling fellow supporters, panty wetter’s, board lackeys, C*nts, republican scum, fans who get on their high horse and think they are better than any of the rest of us or make any personal attacks on our fellow fans regardless of the circumstances.

We are not that other mob…. WE ARE CELTIC.

Hail, Hail.

  1. Great blog to start the year mate. Overall hits all sides and personally agree. We need a lot more unity & action from all sides than we got last year. All the best, you & yours. Hail Hail.

  2. Hi Wullie

I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. It is simply great to have you back and in such good form. Though the break may have allowed you breathing space to find your feet again, it has done nothing to dampen your commitment and enthusiasm. Anyone who does not get that from your first sentence to your last must be blind or blue.

I initially thought of highlighting the points that stood out for me but when I looked at them, I found I was rewriting the whole blog. You have summed up every deep felt feeling I have about the past and my sincerest wishes for the future of our club and its supporters. It is probably wrong to put it that way for the club and support are but one. If anyone thinks or wants them to be different, Celtic football club is not for them. This should be communicated universally and be the basis for the return to unity and peace among ourselves.

One point I will re-emphasise, Wullie, because I have written of it here and elsewhere, is my utter abhorrence of the abusive tones that have crept and continue to creep into several of our sites. They were bad enough when directed towards other supporters and are never ever, justified. Yet much has been patiently tolerated. However, when we start to target our own, the line must be drawn. Respect for others and their right to an opinion is of the essence. How we as individuals express ourselves is crucial both in agreement and in argument. If you have a constitution for this site, you should make the following your primary rule,

” Whether you are a good friend of mine or not I will be blocking any of this sites followers on Twitter etc who indulge in calling fellow supporters, panty wetter’s, board lackeys, C*nts, republican scum, fans who get on their high horse and think they are better than any of the rest of us or make any personal attacks on our fellow fans regardless of the circumstances.”

I have seen elsewhere how the claim for “freedom of speech” is used as an excuse for malice, prejudice and vindictiveness. Many a good debate has been sullied by it and many a site worth reading has been ravaged because of it. It is good to know the guardian of this site will wield the sword when necessary.

I wish you good health and every happiness in 2014, Wullie. Thank you and all the other contributors for the vast and varied input in 2013. It has been a joy to be part of TCN and I look forward with renewed enthusiasm to the current year.
