Forster creates more history as Celtic ease past Hearts

Griffiths in dream land after his 1st Celtic goal against Hearts Away

Today we went to the place we won 7-0 in the cup and there was no way we were going to do that again, Hearts set up today to take our width away. With Izzy missing we lacked width but Hearts did double up on us in the wings

FRASER FORSTER 1,215 Minutes clean sheets by Forster. He is now 96 minutes away from the UK league record held by Edwin Van Der Sar when he was at Manchester United. To say we are delighted for him is an understatement, what he has done is prove his doubters wrong but he has improved. He still needs to get better at coming crosses but he is a young lad so that will come. That is the scary thought for others, he is going to get better. Can we keep him? I don’t think so. The silly money we will get for him should he leave will prove Lennon knows what he is doing, he said after the game “A great day for everyone associated with the club and a cause of celebration not just for Fraser but for players in front of him.”

We won 2-0 today and a brilliant goal by Griffiths, he got on the end of a Stokes high ball, he is a natural left footer, he jinxed through and past the 2 Hearts defenders to score a delightful shot low into the far post, a great goal and a superb place for Leigh to score his 1st goal for Celtic. Biton and Johansen were both superb today and look a handy middle two

The game was all Celtic, we ran the game, we had a scare near the end where I don’t know how the kid missed as the ball fired across our goal, right away the ball was cleared, Scott Brown hit the ball long and high up the park with a minute to go and the Hearts Defender lost it because of brilliant pressure by Balde who then ran at goal, he squared the ball to Pukki 20 yards out, he took a touch one on one with the keeper, with Commons free to his right he had to score and his finish will delight Lenny, he needs 3 strikers who can score and Pukki may now go and score more. With Stokes scoring a lot lately and Griffiths here now, we have a good front line

Celtic’s defence is superb and Forster knows to thank Ambrose and Van Dijk for helping the side keep clean sheets for 1,215 minutes leaving him with the game against Aberdeen on Tuesday away then 7 minutes at home next Saturday against Inverness to break the UK record. A great win but not the best game. As we sit here, we won 2-0, Griffiths scored against Hearts away, Forster got another record, we remain unbeaten in the league and although we know we will win the league we can enjoy the rest of the season now. With Tony Watt coming back for sure in the Summer the future is AMAZING for Celtic and us fans right now

We do this all again on Tuesday away in Aberdeen, thank you for joining me in live coverage and I will see you all here for the next game

  1. Thanks for all your hard work again, Shaun. I won’t see the game till after midnight but the CTV audio indicated “hard work” was the order of the day at Tynecastle too. I mentioned at end of my last comment that the real winner for Scottish football today would be a good game because we had the most experienced and strongest team against the least experienced and possibly the weakest team. From what I heard, both sides produced what sounded like an edge of the seat show, if not a great game, with expectations and fears on both sides being kicked well into touch. Celtic must have fancied another big score given they could play relaxed football and had performed pretty well last week against a much stronger team. Hearts, on the other hand, must have worried they would be victims of another Celtic onslaught as the men against boys scenario seemed destined to be repeated. Well it sounds like today might have been a turning point for many of the boys as they held Celtic reasonably at bay for a respectable result.

Records are a welcome bit of icing but I am more interested in restoring some standards to Scottish football and shoving the Armageddon menu right down the throats of the “seekers of doomsday”.

    1. Game was never going to be a high scoring game Arthur, you know football. After getting beat 7-0 the emphasis from Hearts today was to close down and double up on the wings, basically stop us from playing and to be fair to these kids they did that. We had 60%+ possession and never really looked like being troubled. At one point all 10 Celtic outfield players were in the Hearts half, so 21 players in half a park and a small park at that. So there was not much room today for the width we enjoyed in the 7-0 game. Izzy was a big miss today, he set up and was involved in a few on the 7-0 goals.
Lenny will be happy for many reasons, 3 points and home, clean sheet, new striker scoring, other newish striker scoring and Forster breaking his 2nd record and a possible 3rd in another 97 minutes of football. Aberdeen away (Tuesday) and Inverness next weekend.

No league will produce brilliant games every weekend, just never happens. This was “decent”
In the end we got what we arrived to do and took it home…
