Welcome to The Celtic Network- Including the #FAC Files
When I set up TCN in 2011 it was against the background of the so called ‘shame game’ and the SNP’s ‘Summit’. Little did I realise that football fans from every club in Scotland would be criminalised from the outcome of the SNP’s ‘summit’. I won’t rake over the coals of the ‘shame’ game, we all have eyes in our head and as such know what happened.
The outcome though was disastrous in terms human rights and the freedom of expression of football fans by the SNP’s railroading through of The Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012. Enough has been said about how unworkable and useless this act is in terms of fighting sectarianism in Scottish society, so I won’t dwell on it. Basically the ‘act’ has been responsible for criminalising people who would not normally have seen the inside of a police station never mind a cell in their lives. We also must remember how this act has impacted and disrupted the lives of law abiding individuals and families through pointless court appearances.
Myself and TCN have been involved like many others in fighting first the introduction of this act and subsequently for the act to be axed. This was all done under the banner of ‘Fans Against Criminalisation’. I have been fortunate to be asked to attend press conferences and days at the Scot’s parliament with the group. I have seen at first hand how much hard work FAC and MSP’s from all other parties have put into this fight. Now there appears to be a light at the end of a very dark tunnel, I commend and thank them for all the hours given up to scrap this act and help football fans all over Scotland.
This site contains 84 articles which featured on TCN from 2011-2016 relating to Fans Against Criminalisation, fan harassment by the police, the treatment dished out to the Green Brigade by the authorities and board members of Celtic FC and what really happened in the Gallowgate in March 2013. This site and it’s twitter account has been approved by FAC.
