'Where are we now & where are we headed?'

Ok, I have an admission to make, I have been way too busy with other issues to have kept abreast of Rangers-Gate during the last week or so.
That is not my admission, that is just a fact…the admission is it has been bliss!
Rarely could I have been more disinterested in whats been happening on planet fitba, my personal issues have been way more important and way more concerning.
I am however desperate for the season to start and of course the excitement is all about how my beloved Celtic Football Club’s season will play out, it is also true to say I am intrigued as to how all things Sevco will resolve themselves, that of course is more immediately an issue.
See on Friday, Sevco or Rangers as they’d like to be known, must be approved by the SFA to gain membership of association in order to be able to play organised association football at all.
Many issues still remain and they would appear to be serious and credible threats to the future of either Sevco FC or the SFA. We are amidst the biggest game of brinkmanship in the game’s history. At the moment it would appear that Sevco are standing firm on many issues of disciplinary procedure, indeed they are effectively holding the Scottish Football Association, and therefore all of its member clubs to ransom…clearly not for the first time.
The immorality of their stance is staggering, even now they want to protect the tainted history of a deceased club and inexplicably feel so empowered as to demand, not negotiate, but to actually dictate the levy of punishment and even the nature and the gravity of the charges brought against them.
I hope I don’t sound like an apologist for our national football association, much of how empowered Sevco may feel can be thoroughly attributed to the ineptness of the organisation and to their  continued assistance rendered approach to the most immoral of all ‘footballing institutions’.
I hear interesting notes of budgetary concerns at Sevco are also now being publicly discussed and examined at length, none of this is of any surprise to myself, I have previously stated the likelihood of a newco surviving an entire season as a ‘going concern’ to be a remote possibility. How much the running costs, how quickly they can be trimmed, indeed how far they can be trimmed and how sellable the product will then be, are all questions for which Sevco should already have prepared thorough answers…to date they don’t even know if they will be a football club at all.
Strange tact really, when you consider most of Sevco’s current ransom motives seem prepared solely to protect the historical significance of a dead club and of a dead club of whom only a small, small minority of its fans have taken active steps to align themselves with the newco. Supposedly only 450 or so season tickets have been sold…now even without a business degree or an expertise in a financial industry, I can see this to be a rather significant obstacle to maintaining a club even a fraction of Rangers previous size. Yet Sevco still seem strongly opposed to bending to the will of the people and to the football association who are also wilting under the mounting pressure of said people’s will.
Strange tactic, very strange tactic…unless of course you buy into my assertion that football is but a secondary business plan, being explored for goodwill purposes rather than for financial by a business who’d rather be ejected and to have the decision removed from their hands…the blood would not stain their palms that way.
Anyhow on a more affectionate note, next Wednesday will see our great club, with all of its 125 years of history intact, re-engage with the fans on its first competitive outing of the season in a Champions League qualifier against Helsinki.
A dismal pre-season we may have had but that should be no real indicator on our hopes of progressing, for me pre-season especially one so short in duration, is all about double session and gaining fitness, the games and their results are of secondary importance or un-importance actually.
The playing staff looks healthy, yeah a few new recruits could have been an interesting addition but only really for European competitions sake, it is probably a wise, even if unpopular, business plan for our club to have followed. To be brutally honest Europe is a bonus for us this season, the re-establishment of an integritous and compelling national top flight is far more pressing in nature, besides we have some quality youth players in abundance and I would always much rather produce and nurture their talents whilst integrating them to the rigours of first team action than to buying yet more expensive foreign imports.
We the fans must be both patient and understanding, we should relish the fact that we have a future and all the ups and downs that it may bring, come Friday, 450 transitional old to newco fans and their supposed tens of thousands of potential fans may have nothing but a tainted history to pour their attentions over.
The futures bright…it’s green and white.

  5. Hi Brian
    Great post.
It is farcical what is unfolding before our eyes. However ponder this. The longer this sorry saga continues the more information emerges about Sevco’s financial plight. Their posturing is like a ‘hero’ in a film who is being strangled by the baddie [SFA] and as the squeeze tightens and the apparent last vestiges of his breath is forced out of him he plays dead. The when the grip is loosened he jumps up and kicks the shit out of the baddie. Only in this case he might not time it so well. Quite simply they dont have the money to pay the football debts and keep the show on the road. The more they can smear others and paint themselves as the victims, they think that the ‘walking dead’ will rush in and buy those value for money season tickets and save the day.
That just isnt going to happen any day soon.

    1. Thanks McAllister of O.I.E. (Quite regal sounding that!)
As usual, with your articulate response I could not agree more.
The longer they have an opportunity to convince the masses, the more funds they hope to raise from naive ex Rangers fans.
Quite simply, I don’t believe the appetitie is there for Sevcos ‘Diet Rangers’.
Nobody, even the most loyal of bears, trusts them and to be honest they know it but it won’t stop them trying.
The budget is not sufficiently enahanced by revenue to ensure survival, they must however dive infront of a bullet and claim themselves to have been shot whilst heroically attempting to protect ‘Rangers FC’…their “dying to be killed on behalf of the already deceased”…now there is a irony to digest.
I’ve entered that in inverted commas to highlight my direct quote…kinda succinctly phrased by more own standards of waffling!
