Before I get tore in I’m a share holder, I’ve read all the half and annual reports so I know where we are financially. I appreciate the quality of the board members and to be honest they may be the best in the UK.
Now I know we are carrying a bit debt which probably will increase this year if we don’t either sell a player for good money or have a decent run in Europe that is either the Group stage of the Champions league or at least the semi finals of the Europa league.
This board are taking a massive gamble by waiting to see if we qualify for the group stages before we sign any players. That basically gives us a few days in the market and who will be left worth buying ?
Once again we have seen inaction on a grand scale. This board does not seem to get the ‘speculate to accumulate’ approach to business. To my mind they should have been seeking a Centre half with experience and a big old fashioned centre forward since the market closed in January.
They should have shown faith in the manager and told him to aggressively pursue and mark out targets so that as soon as the transfer window opened we could be in right away and made good offers for the kind of players we need by dangling t e Champions league in their faces.
Now I’m not talking crazy money here I’m talking £10m which we could either cover with selling someone like Ki . The main thing I am driving at is that we would have these guys in place for preseason and get them bedded into the team and hopefully in the process improve the team and the flexibility the manager would need to improve our results in Europe.
Once again for the umpteenth year running the balance sheet is king. What is wrong with having a punt? We have players that if the worst came to the worst we could sell if they are so desperate in keeping debt down.
The best way to keep debt down is to get bums on seats and so far all we have had in way of encouragement is a letter from the CEO Asking us to shell out money with no real promise of a better quality of player.
Rant over..till the next time.
