I often think that surely the whole Rangers-gate fiasco cannot possibly get any stranger, any more ridiculous or any more farcical…I’m often wrong!
Today, Mr Charles Green told everyone that he and his club, who incidentally he claims to be ‘Rangers’ and who own all of the history honours and all, would not participate in Lord Nimmo Smith’s investigation into the EBT payments made to players and therefore the illegal registration of players.
He claimed that ‘his’ club were not accepting the SPL’s legal authority to act on the matter.
His frankly ridiculous stance is that as he was rejected entry to the SPL and is therefore not a member, the SPL have no legal right to strip honours which are found to have been won by an old club, by an ex-member.
That stance would then seem to be contradictory of all that he has said before, after all he only got SFA membership transferred from a legally unsound ‘temporary issue’ to a full transfer on old-Rangers membership on the conditions of acceptance of all sporting sanctions.
Did Rangers not indeed win SFA affiliated honours during the EBT era, say a Scottish Cup or two…did they not represent Scottish Football in Europe during this era…did they not play in SPL matches whilst clearly in breach of the rules of each competition…”yes, but that was old-Rangers, we are no longer them because we don’t have their SPL share.”, is my interpretation of Mr Green’s bold statement.
Things may just be about to get damn interesting again.
The question is just when is enough going to be enough and for the SPL, SFL, SFA and UEFA to grow a pair and to deal finally and mercilessly with this reprehensible and conscience-less club.
May Mr Green be about to tread a step too far, in a minefield of corruption and self preservation…or will the old friends act, once more ride to their rescue?
Personally, I hope they retain an SFA membership but are banned for life from holding an SPL share…how short a life they may then have.
They are not quite as omnipotent as they seem to think, nowadays.
