Celebrations at paradise as Celtic draw 1-1 with Ross County (Goal Video)

Not the best game I have seen but with the league won, players injured and 2 academy players starting it probably wasn’t going to be the goal feast we all wanted, Ross County need points remember so they had something to fight for, I think in the end 1-1 was fair but we may have edged it on possession and shots

Celtic started ok and should have took the lead early on with half chances from Stokes and a shot from the edge of the box from Johansen. But with 15 minutes played Scott Brown gave away the ball very cheaply, County pounced, one pass, one shot and 1-0 Ross County, to be fair a good finish but very poor from Brown who wasn’t anywhere near his best today but he was in good company in today’s game

After losing the goal Celtic upped the tempo, on the 20 minute mark Stokes had a shot on the edge of the box but it went right at the keeper,  3 minutes later it could have been 2-0 to County when Melvin De Leeuw screwed his shot over the bar from 6 yards out. A few minutes later Carey missed another chance for County as they had a long spell of possession

Just as it looked like being one of these days up stepped Kris Commons, he wasn’t near superb today but he got his goal.  Johansen won the ball brilliantly just in the County half ran 10 yards with it played it to Griffiths who shot and it was flying in the back post, Brown in goal could only parry it down the way and Commons slid in to tie the game 1-1, Celtic had one more shot on goal when Stokes shot right at the keeper, 1-1 at half time and we all hoped for a better 2nd half

The 2nd half was seconds old, we won a corner it was played to the feet of Ambrose 10 yards out, his shot hit a County player and feel at the feet of Henderson but his shot flew high and wide.

Just after the hour mark Commons made way for Samaras who to be fair did nothing, the league is won, the game is over but I wouldn’t take Commons off the park at 1-1 ever, maybe just me. Within 5 minutes of being on the park Samaras gave the ball away or played a stray pass

The highlight for me today was the introduction of Academy centre half Eoghan O Connell, the 18 year old sailed through the game along with 17 year old Liam Henderson who got his 1st goal in the midweek 5-1 championship clinching win away to Partick Thistle.

County came close to getting a 2-1 win when a long Carey shot hit Forster’s right hand post, but Celtic left it late to show any real urgency with Van Dijk playing up-front the last 5 minutes. I really do wonder why Balde wasn’t given a good 20 minutes today ahead of Samaras, a player who doesn’t want to remain at the club, well at this stage anyway

In the end 1-1 was fair, the players walked around the park, most of the fans stayed behind an extra 20 minutes to applaud the side, most players had their kids with them and Griffiths kids spent a good 10 minutes scoring about 20 goals at the Jock Stein end of the park. All in a game we will forget with ease but a game we seen another glimpse of what the Academy is producing

Man of the match – For me Johansen, tons of energy, created the goal and was all over the park

Till next time #HH

  1. We won the only competition that we didn’t have any competition for…now all we have is the wait to see who is sold and I think Virgil and Fraser will both be offski as with Samaras (people don’t like him but he will be missed in the big games). We will not qualify for the CL proper next season and fail during the qualifiers and Leigh Griffiths has found his level SPFL just like Stokes neither of them will do anything in Europe.

Not at all looking forward to next season

    1. Nothing like a bit of positive thinking on a Monday morning. You have made my miserable day – more depressing!

  2. Hi Shaun

Another busy weekend so just reading your report now. I guess there will always be damp squibs in any planned celebrations and Saturday was just such an occasion. In my lengthy experience of these celebratory of matches, they are either an explosion of entertainment or the proverbial flat pancake. I have had a mix of both and I guess this season it was the turn of the latter. However, these occasions are more about the two way recognition and reward of players and fans for a hard shift (probably harder for fans this year than players) throughout the season rather than performance on the day. No matter the assessments of the press, the unrealistic expectations of supporters who have not experienced “bad times” and those who are simply manic depressives, we won the big trophy and deservedly so no matter the quality of opposition. Those who decry the standard of competition in Scotland ought to look very closely at the EPL in recent seasons and several of the top European leagues this year and that in spite of money mania. The one thing for certain is we are not alone when it comes to domination. Yet, I hear little open condemnation of the other countries’ leagues.

I may not be doing somersaults – as much to do with my inability to do so than lack of desire – but I will still show my appreciation for what the club has achieved especially given its severe financial limitations compared to most of the rest of Europe. Our practical choice is either to be as good as we possibly can be as we are or play at trying to be the greatest for a brief spell only to disappear into oblivion and non-existence. I would rather have a slice of plain cake than no cake at all. I think there are many in Glasgow who wish they had felt the same a few years ago.

Here’s to more home baking next season and the hope of a bit of icing.

    H H
