Celtic issue statement on ‘sectarian’ lies

As we pointed out in our last blog STV news ran a misleading headline on it’s flagship news program stating that the SPL would not be taking further action on ‘Sectarian Singing’ by Celtic fans at the Hibs game. In contray to what was published on their web site. Today this misleading headline was published again in The Herald “newspaper”.

To the clubs credit they have released the following statement;

IT has been reported today by a number of news organisations that Celtic has been ‘cleared’ or has ‘escaped punishment’ for ‘sectarian chanting’.

While the Club accepts that the SPL had looked at an issue concerning unacceptable conduct, at no time has Celtic been investigated by the SPL or any other body for sectarian chanting.

Clearly, it is important that this matter is clarified. Celtic will be contacting the organisations in question to ensure that such reporting is corrected.

The Celtic Network along with the rest of the Celtic family look forward to both these media outlets apologising for this slur on the good name of our club and support.

Hail, Hail
